I obviously do not know what went down outside of these posts, but I want to believe that Usher would not clown himself that badly. Feel like he knows this shit would not fly but who knows. I’m constantly baffled by public stupidity daily.

It’s a shitty thing to do but ngl the idea of printing fake money with yourself on it and throwing it around at a strip club is kinda funny

When I first got my license, an old man hit me. We pulled into a parking lot to exchange info. He walked up to me, gave me something from his shirt pocket, walked to his car, and drove off. It was a fake one million dollar bill with his face on it. Like he had them ready to give away when he needed to.

    Lmao.

I used to get so annoyed when people would tip but then the bill was fake and had some Bible shit written on it.

Sooooo Phoebe has been getting some flack for this, here’s a few examples. Curious what folks here think about what she’s doing.

Looks like she's getting a lot of people of to donate and I really wouldn't have thought second about it, but I can understand from reading those tweets why people are upset. I guess it's not very tactful.

  15. She's using her unique position as someone with a platform to encourage fans to donate to a crucial cause. Lacking tact is definitely the best way to put it, but isn't any donation a net positive?

I guess she could’ve just asked people to donate without the lyrics aspect. Unfortunate sad reality is that probably not nearly as many would do so if they weren’t getting something they wanted.

Apologies if this is very dumb, it’s late and my brain isn’t working well right now, but why is what she’s doing lacking tact? I’d appreciate it if someone could explain it to me.

Because instead of people donating to help, it’s like they are getting a gift with the added bonus of donating.

Yeah I gotta be honest if she’s successfully getting people to donate to his gf and child, it’s really not that big of an issue

I can see that angle, but wouldn’t a gesture like that in theory inspire far more people to donate? Maybe not for the right reasons, true, but aren’t the donations really what’s important in the end?

That’s what I was thinking but I saw some people being critical so I came here to get others thoughts.

  23. i pretty much agree with the majority so far, but i just wanna urge this doesn’t dip too close into policing people of color’s reactions to extremely traumatic state sponsored violence

How is that any different than auctioning something off for charity?

  25. It's a good conversation to have especially because I do understand the dissonance between selling your handwriting or whatever to raise money as the result of something absolutely horrific happening, but I guess I just struggle to find encouraging donations to be an accountability issue.

People should donate if they can and should not have to be incentivized, but I view any donation as a net positive, and also know that a lot of people aren't in a place to give much after the past year-plus.
