Fuck St*F* so much. Their popularity in Australia is nauseating when you consider what utter pieces of shit they all are.

 

He lived about a half an hour away from my hometown.

I wanna note that FAR after this all went public, he still continued to produce albums and EPs for a bunch of pop punk and emo bands in the scene in that area, and he was a prominent figure in that scene too (hell, he was in attendance at a show my band played a few years back). And as far as I know, the members of these bands are still in touch with him.

The fact that this whole thing didn’t stop any of those bands from associating/working with him again baffles me

nah, 7yrs for a criminal case is absurd. Barring extremely exceptional circumstances, just 2 years is quite a long time for even big cases like murders or elaborate financial crimes. I have no idea how a case like this one goes on for 5+ years

No, they won’t. I am a criminal defense attorney. Again, it just isn’t really something that happens to this extent at all. Delaying a case for the sake of delaying it doesn’t exactly help the defendant if all that’s happening is delaying the inevitable. If anything, it’s the kind of thing that hack attorneys do in order to make it look as if they are doing something significant when they know that they aren’t.

 

Well then I stand corrected.

 

Lol it’s understandable, given pop culture portrayals and how many attorneys do try it themselves. And in civil cases, delaying actually can possibly serve a purpose — if you know the other side has way less money than you, you can abuse that knowledge to try to drag it on forever in order to pressure them to give in on the basis that they would be paying tons of fees and it wouldn’t be worth fighting anymore.

But in criminal cases, the prosecution never has that same incentive to quit prosecuting you. If anything, *they* are the ones who benefit from dragging something on indefinitely (not that they necessarily intentionally do so), as many people just want to plead to get out of the system as fast as possible, especially if they can’t make bail.
