I never said she was trustworthy, just didn't understand the doublethink from a lot of people on who enables people they think are abusers. I appreciate you being consistent in your beliefs.

I'm really sorry you had (have) to go through that.

To be clear, there are plenty of artists I now have to side eye or call out who I really loved because of their defense of abusers. That's not uncommon. Jeff Rosenstock sold Cheap Girls CDs on his site long after their singer was outed as an abuser. When pressed, he blocked people on Twitter instead of engaging with him. If memory serves, he later apologized and clarified that he was in direct contact with the survivor and helping to mediate the situation, or something, but still. I think of that every time I hit play on one of his songs. It sucks, and I can't fully support him or the community he has created anymore.

You'd be surprised at how many of these bands promoting positive or safe spaces are still linked with truly horrible people.

It’s always going to come back to the same truth: there are literally an infinite number of musical artists in this world who have not abused women, been accused of abusing women, or the like. You can listen to and support those artists. Accountability is never going to come for these dudes so the best thing we can do is put our energy, time, and money into artists who align with our values and aren’t shitty people.

That's very true. Part of why I don't financially support them.

  5. Thank you, but it is what it is (and he's the one who has to go through life failing indefinitely at trying to be Dave Grohl). I'm merely relaying that here to provide context for why I think the way I do.

It makes a lot of sense as to why you would have that perspective and I appreciate you being willing to share that.

  7. (Just catching up but it seems important to note that G Herbo is, in fact, an abuser, as posted about a few pages back before the fraud thing)

Also worth mentioning that if you're going to use Phoebe and Half Waif as your justification for supporting/absolving Pinegrove, how do you reconcile the statement Lomelda made? She came out and said she regrets being part of pinegrove and believes ESH should no longer have a platform.

Others have already said it better, but "women who know him still support him" is about as flimsy as it gets.

  9. I think there's always an assumption that "these people must know something we don't" which is something I wish people would stop assuming. Usually what they know is that they personally care about this person and have therefore done mental gymnastics to rationalize their behavior, just like any other apologist.

The fact that this impulse is so normal is why we gotta talk about it more, so people can get used to examining their own blind spots. We all have them, I'm certainly no different. But just because something is normal or even understandable doesn't mean it isn't a problem. (You weren't saying that, I'm just concluding my thought.)

    The spiciest meme

All these Twitter replies acting like they don't remember back in 2007 when Don Imus got blasted for it and made waves, selective memory it seems. (obviously some would have been too young back in 2007 to remember but still)

  14. Can I just say that it’s disappointing to see that ESH is still referred to as a “creepy” or “strange” dude - it’s no fault of anyone here, sexual coercion still isn’t taken as seriously as it should be. It’s a traumatic, unforgettable experience that tarnishes trust and future relationships; whether it occurs with a longtime partner, someone who abused their power, like ESH; or a stranger. Please don’t take The 1975’s cue and call sexual coercion “weird stuff”. That’s a tremendous disservice to anyone who’s actually faced it.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

“we’re trying to do what we can in the safest possible way”

    Um... no you’re not...

  19. Even here in Victoria, where we haven’t recorded a single case of Covid in 38 days, gigs are seated with 2sqm between people (which only changed over the weekend). Governments are planning safe outdoor events in the lead up to summer. Hold Close certainly did NOT do what they could in the safest possible way. How did that even go ahead???

Appears the band is at least taking accountability. As if they didn't know how unsafe it would be going in...

The comments are rightfully calling out the bullshit on "damn we didn't think of it that way"

    Hey. Supporter

I know we have a collective unspoken no Trapt rule here, but tonight’s twitter rants from the guy are truly unhinged and terrifying, alluding that a victim of abuse would never be r***d because she’s too ugly and that pedophilia is acceptable between a 25 and 15 year old.

It’s all just for attention, as that is what he thrives on. Pretty much every comment he gets in his replies (e.g. the one below) are negative. The more outrageous and horrific things he says the more people are going to respond with outrage and criticism which is what he clearly wants. If people just completely stopped paying attention to his tweets maybe he would stop because no one is listening.

Since Trapt was brought up again though, I should say that I am quite frankly shocked twitter has not banned their account yet.

We’re doing it again. We’re talking about Trapt.

No more Trapt, please, for the good of all of us.
