If someone at this point still doesn’t understand how or why masks work, or the reason for wearing it, then I know all I need to know — they’re an absolute dumb fuck.

 

I know Noel is an idiot and all that but tbh I'm starting to come around on the belief that it's irresponsible for any media outlet to be reporting on famous people who refuse to wear masks. Telling people that celebrities they look up to are being so stupid and irresponsible is basically giving them cover for doing the same thing themselves, even if buried somewhere in the article you put an obligatory paragraph about how the experts say masks are effective. Just let them shout that nonsense into the void, or tweet it on their own time. No need to platform it whatsoever. Platforming it for clicks is just despicable.

 

Yeah, if it's gonna get reported on at all (which, this country will never stop reporting on celebrities every move so long as it gets clicks so... sigh) then the "neutral" framing becomes overtly dishonest and actively harmful.

 

For sure. And with headlines like this one, where you could almost argue the headline itself is framed from Noel's point of view as opposed to any semblance of neutrality, it's even worse.

 

Oh, that's kinda why I put it in quotes. Because that's what they're pretending is "neutral" in the discourse. I wish I was joking.

 

Oh yeah my bad, I thought you meant like generally these kinds of headlines tend to be written in a way that the journalist believes is "neutral" or "objective".

And given most people just look at headlines as they scroll, it's even more harmful.

 

I also always favored Noel growing up, interesting how that's been switching in later years. Not that Liam is a great person per se but seems like he's gotten slightly more sense in older age

A lot of bands I really love continue to put on tours that are almost entirely white and male. Lately I've been thinking a lot about how irresponsible that is. I'm not familiar with los campesinos but good on them for doing the right thing. Bigger bands should take notice.
