Had the misfortune of having him "engage" with me over his sexist shit and then had all his transphobic teenage fans dogpile on me. Also uses the r slur so you know. A well rounded individual

 

Assuming you're referring to his twitter rant on International Women's Day last year, he made an apology with regard to the way he worded it. Besides, crying sexism every time someone questions the motivations of certain groups who identify with feminism isn't going to solve anything.

I really don't even know why I bother. This site loves to hate this band, and pop-punk in general, so I'll just shut my mouth. The rest of you are so much more "woke" anyway.

If you legit support a band who spout off sexist and ableist language that also have some allegations against them, I don't care how good of a user you are, you deserve the all the side-eyeing and criticism in the world. Get this Neck Deep trash out of this thread and off this site

 

when I was 17 I definitely went to bat online for some tremendous pieces of shit that were in bands I liked with the end goal of protecting them from the evil specter of feminism or whatever.

at some point i realized i should probably just be quiet about those things and listen to what people had to say, because I'm not always right all the time and people aren't flawless or even necessarily good human beings just because they're in a band I like

 

i would say if they do double down on their shitty views due to criticism, thats their fault not ours

most people are defensive by nature and throwing "fuck this/fuck that/fuck you" platitudes at them is less likely to educate/change their mind than meaningful criticism as to why they shouldn't support an artist or why that artist did something wrong, imo. That's why I've learned and continue to learn so much from this board/AP

obviously you're gonna have extremely combative people that will defend literally anything and never change their mind and in that case, meaningful criticism is not helpful

 

those of us that have been doing this for over half a decade dont have the patience to explain things for the one millionth time. if they wanna toss some money in my paypal sure ill go ahead and explain for the one millionth time why what they're saying is gross, sexist, and harmful, but im mentally spent and google is fucking free

 

Maybe it is the age difference, and maybe when I’m older and more experienced in the scene I’ll see it differently but my controversial opinion still stands. At the same time, I’m no longer going to bring up or respond to the controversy surrounding this band because I think both sides of the argument have already been hashed out enough.
