There's so little information on that Culture Abuse allegation other than that one tweet right? Then complete radio silence from any attempt to get any response from anybody? Can't find the tweet at the moment using a basic google search and can't remember the full details...I think he emotionally manipulated his ex and pushed them around at least once? It's so frustrating, I've been making a conscious decision to avoid their music since, but can't back it up in conversation about them.

 

Pasting this in here for anyone that missed it and is interested — a discussion on racism in the scene, hosted by photographer Courtney Coles. Whole thing’s close to 2 hours long, didn’t tune in for all of it so can’t personally speak to the overall quality, but at least a couple of these guys typically have a lot to say

most notably to this thread in particular, Jason name drops AP.net at 01:33:00 shortly before going on an extended ramble about cancel culture. I wouldn’t say it’s revolutionary or anything, but certainly treads along the lines of discussions we’ve had in here

Just remembering that totally not bullshit #nomoresilenceAP initiative in 2015 after the FPS/pure noise debacle. so great. Definitely been doing a stellar job breaking the silence in the past 5 years by repeatedly and unashamedly featuring misogynists, rapists, abusers, and racists.

 

Alternative Press sucks. Their continued coverage of rapists, sexual abusers, and overall shitty men is disgusting. Instead of promoting shitty men they could spend that time promoting pop punk, hardcore, and metalcore bands who DO NOT have shitty members.

 

AP sucks, and Austin Carlisle is and always has been a fucking scumbag.

What does being female led and LGBTQIA+ staff have to do with this situation? Like that’s great that you have those things but that doesn’t change the fact that you refused to publish this story and essentially silenced survivors voices.

 

I know it’s one of the only news outlets which covers pop punk but there are way better news outlets to support for music related news which don’t cover problematic artists, or if they do, include a caveat about the persons prior actions/misconduct.

 

Plus their website is literally the worst I’ve experienced

 

I recently started listening to a podcast called Reply All and episode #125 All My Pets is about a young youtuber called Taylor Nicole Dean. In the episode (which came out a couple of years ago) it is mentioned that she started dating Jonny Craig from Dance Gavin Dance, and knowing he's been brought up several times in this thread I got worried. I looked up her youtube channel and she's got an +1 hour long video detailing all the horrifying abuse that guy put her through. It is making me feel very sick. How can someone be such a piece of shit and face absolutely no consequences?

He has been dropped from his label/management, kicked out of Dance Gavin Dance twice, kicked out of Emarosa, and kicked out of Slaves. But I think it is pretty shocking he has not faced any legal consequences that I know of.

Edit: He was also denied by NBC as a contestant for The Voice because of his behavior.

If cancel culture existed, which it fucking doesn’t, Louis CK wouldn’t have sold out theatre shows & joked about the allegations towards him just months ago. Call me when abusers lose their platforms for good, then there could be some merit in “cancel culture”
