This whole thing stressed me out so much I had a fever last night that lasted until noon. Following this made me physically ill. I can't imagine what actual survivors were going through, this must've been so triggering. I think I need a break from Twitter.

If this is truly the end of it, I hope no harm comes to Amber, self-inflicted or otherwise. People have been so mean to her. And yeah, I guess if anyone wants to "unstan" Mitski (internet slang is so weird) they have every right to do so. It's not a bad thing to want to side with the accuser. We shouldn't start disbelieving anyone that comes forward after this, that's the last thing victims need.

And I'm still like, Is it safe now to listen to Mitski again? I hate having this feeling of doubt. I hate that this might permanently tarnish her reputation if the accusations are actually false. I hate everything about this situation.

 

I feel like no matter how the dust settles, so to speak, people will use this situation to discredit and doubt future victims. Which sucks.

 

They absolutely will, and it absolutely does.

It'll also get used to discredit people who support victims but don't think this particular accusation holds water.

Either way, my heart is pretty heavy on this one. I hope Amber finds some kind of healing.

Just wow. What an intense situation.
I don’t want to “make claims” about someone’s mental health....I can only say that as someone who has extremely intimate experience with someone who was extremely mentally ill AND had experience with hallucinogen-induced psychotic breaks (similar to ambers reddit post), that reading through everything was definitely triggering of that time frame and of dealing with someone in that headspace. A lot of what they’ve said is very consistent with this type of psychosis & paranoia etc.
I’m glad most people (that I can see) are trying to still treat her with dignity and I do sincerely hope she gets help.

 

It’s incredibly sad all around- totally agree with everything @supernovagirl said. I guess some people from 4chan reached out to Amber’s family members, which is definitely not IDEAL but I hope at least someone who knows her IRL can help now.

Has Matty publicly shared his sexual identity? I'm not in deep on the band but don't want to make assumptions.

 

That’s kinda of Rammstein’s thing though, they’ve done stuff like that for years. Totally get where you’re coming from though and I don’t disagree

 

They did this at EVERY stop on their most recent tour, it’s part of the show. As a gay male I see no issue with it, in fact it’s pretty bad ass to see LGBT support from a metal band. In my younger years it was really discouraging being a metal fan, as I never had any acts that I felt related to me. This is cool for a closeted young kid to see representation in a genre where their normally is very little.

In regards to what Matty did, it’s a lose-lose. Same thing Taylor just went through, you’re damned if you speak up and damned if you don’t.

 

This is the least shocking news ever...anyone remember when she forcibly kissed that guy on American Idol? He had never kissed a girl before and she kind of just went for it without getting any type of consent...gross...

 

ALSO if Matt had kissed a girl on that stage we would think that was super fucking creepy??? So why is this different?

 

I think there's a lot of The 1975's history of allyship that should put a lot of this into context. The band has been very upfront, outspoken, and done a lot of good for the community over the course of their careers. From the "Loving Someone" campaign, to the speeches they've given at shows, and quite a few other things. I've never seen it as him centering himself, except when specifically asked about his sexuality, where he's often said he's still figuring it out.

 

He may be tone deaf but I think calling it islamophobic is a stretch.

Maybe not a popular opinion( I really don't know) but I will never give homophobia a pass just because it's tied to someone's religion. Unless the argument is that homophobic beliefs are intrinsically tied to Islam, which does sound islamophobic.

 

You realize you can have the best of intentions and still be problematic right? Kissing a fan onstage is creepy IDC who you are or why you're doing it and I feel like people are gonna give him a pass because everybody here stans this band.

Especially from somebody like Matt who has a history of running his mouth and saying dumb shit sometimes.

So what? Are we going to ignore power dynamics and how inappropriate we would find this if it was a girl and how all we are doing is talking about Matt kissing a guy "for equality" instead of you know...actual issues with the repression of LGBTQ+ folks around the world? This is exactly what I mean by centering yourself...there are ways to demonstrate allyship that isn't making out with the same gender like you're being radical as a straight man when people in this world who are actually gay live repressed and in fear every day. Demonstrating his privilege as a white man who can kiss somebody and just leave seems just as problematic to me tbh
