Well, given that he has withheld royalties from songwriters, written people out of contracts behind their back, (attempted to?) sleep with girlfriends of the bands opening for him, and been sued multiple times for millions of dollars, he’s a shitty person top to bottom.

 

Someone on Twitter claims that Kurt Cobain was really a (trans) woman who killed himself because of transphobia. I feel like this whole thread goes here. I don't think it's fair to assign someone a gender without them speaking out on it, personally.

 

This wasn’t a great take, to say the least, but that person is really getting dragged on Twitter and Facebook and that’s a shame. They’re obviously really struggling and everyone’s just piling on.

 

I don’t think we should be sharing posts about someone’s supposed gender identity when that person cannot speak to them. No one should ever discuss someone’s gender without express permission.

Posting things like this just allows for speculation and dialogue that isn’t wanted or needed.

Let Kurt rest and ignore the tweeter’s need for attention.

 

Jesus Christ can we go like 3 weeks without a new Kurt Cobain conspiracy theory. Let the poor guy rest.

 

I mean, this theory isn’t really new. It’s def something I’ve seen before from other sources, and something I’d even independently (and privately, which I think is important to note lol) pondered myself. I think speculation, while maybe not the greatest look in the world, is relatively harmless in this scenario; however the extent to which that person is taking it is very toxic. I also think bringing attention to it is unnecessary tho tbh and we should just let it die for a lot of reasons.

 

There are a lot of people who will have historically struggled with their assigned gender - and for a lot of reasons, either didn't exist in a space where they could talk about it or are no longer here to tell anyone.

I don't think it's harmful for people to privately ponder things like this, because what happens in our own brains (and only in our own brains) is ours. Trying to police that is a fool's errand. But externalizing that and declaring someone else's gender when there is no first-person source and never will be? Is... not something I feel anyone should feel comfortable or entitled to do.

 

Kurt also has a daughter who on top of dealing with her father's suicide has had to suffer through decades of conspiracy theories about which famous person apparently was responsible for killing her father- including her own mother. For that reason I don't think the trans angle is very responsible to discuss.

So I went down the family trio band wormhole. Saw the lead singer is married to someone who she met on WT when she was underage. So this family already set the precedent for the gross behavior.

 

He’s 29 and she’s 22 and they were rumored to be dating in 2013 and it was made publicly official in 2016. So yeah, gross precedent.
