Actually fucking infuriating. Way to completely gloss over the fact that he’s done the same thing to numerous underage girls.

 

I know every time someone puts up a statement on something like this it usually is a terrible statement, but this one has to take the title for worst statement. This is Kevin spacey “but wait I’m secretly gay” level bad.

I literally made this same comparison in conversation last night. It’s truly beyond parody.

 

I've seen some bullshit non-apology statements in my time and that is definitely up there as the fucking worst one I've ever read. Throw the whole damn band away.

 

“Hey, our drummer is acting creepy to young girls but it’s okay, folks, he has a mental disorder so it’s okay!”
Fuck these people, especially for using Aspergers as excuse for that behavior.

 

“Yeah Graham’s done this a bunch cause he’s on the spectrum and that’s just what people on the spectrum do! Nobody else told us it was creepy before so we guess it isn’t! Sorry if you thought it was! We really like Graham and so do some other people!”

Fuuuuuuuuck this. Sincerely hope they’re torn apart by folks on the spectrum because they’re obviously counting on people seeing it as too touchy of a subject to criticize.

Is this a test? Is any of this fucking real? I'm just so fucking tired y'all. My S.O. is on the spectrum and this is so disguising. I'm sure someone will use this to demonize others on the spectrum.

 

yeah I have issues with social cues and knowing not to say "hey beautiful" to a ten year old girl isn't a social cue

 

Ha I typed out this same comment but before posting I ran the statement back and noticed the part near the bottom about “As a family, we will continue to work with him to have the right tools and knowledge about social boundaries”. Which is obviously a dodge of the actual problem, but in a statement this bad I’m sort of shocked they mentioned anything about getting help at all. Idk this whole thing is just so gross

 

It’s also practically impossible to tell if they’re referring to his diagnosis or the allegations as what they’ve “never publicly addressed” before, and I’m baffled that they didn’t even attempt to word that more clearly. The entire thing is so misguided on every level and I’m shocked that they don’t have anyone trying to do better damage control.

 

It is so disgusting, dismissing his predatory pedophilic behavior simply because he is on the Autism Spectrum? As if all people on the spectrum are predatory? As if having trouble with social cues is equal to sending inappropriate messages to young underage girls? Because honestly fuck that! Fuck everything about that statement. People on the spectrum can be some of the best people in the world. Tired of people conflating these things with predatory behaviors. It makes me sick and it is no doubt hurtful to people on the spectrum in general.

 

@Jason Tate Can you make sure that Echosmith doesn’t get converge on here? Not only because their drummer creeps on young girls but because they insultingly suggested that he did so because he’s on the spectrum, which is a crass and horrible excuse to use?

 

Ugh this actually really bummed me out. As someone with ASD... fucking hate this. Being autistic doesn't make you prey on kids. I just... this is so regressive and offensive.

 

You wouldn't think people on here would be as disgusting to use Asperger's as a shield for him being a nonce - at least not until @sureshot did it - but then it actually showed up in the band's statement. Fuck off.

 

They managed to insult those on the spectrum, Alabama and all the other girls he hit up, as well as the general public because we just "misunderstood." They should have a Razzies for worst "apology" statement.

 

Man I really love Echosmith so that's disappointing to read their extremely lackluster "apology". I understand that when it comes to family, it's your instinct to defend them at all costs. I don't doubt that Graham is a really nice person and as they claim has trouble with social cues, but there's a bigger issue here that they neglected to address

 

Really fucking bummed out after reading that “apology.” I’ve struggled with social cues and interpersonal communication throughout my life, but I’ve never done something as horrible as this
