Caleb lives in my city now and he seems like a pretty chill guy, not the J Cook type. Kyle is married to Mindy White so I’d like to hope he isn’t a MAGA bro. But damn, that photo is wild.

When I was driving to pick up my kids the other day I saw a sign in front of a house in the middle of nowhere with the name "Jonathan Cook" and laughed like "heh like the Forever The Sickest Kids guy from my hometown" and then I read this thread and he actually sells houses in the middle of nowhere in Texas

I mean, you're a white dude living in an affluent area who plays music for people who go to the mall as a passtime.. if that ain't a recipe for voting conservative after the age of 25, idk what is

I hate this shit. I was at a festival that had an Emo nite booth with all black merch that said shit like “SAD AS FUCK” and “MAKE AMERICA SAD AGAIN”

  10. Here's an idea: I know these bands can sympathise with those of us struggling with mental health, because they sure as fuck can WRITE about it and SING about it - why don't they put their money where their mouth is and arrange something with this awfully-named festival whereby a percentage of ticket and merch sales are donated to organisations that provide services to people struggling with their mental health?

  11. Could people here give me some pointers as to which American mental health awareness/support orgs I could mention in an email to their general mail address as I think this is something that needs to be addressed.

But they play sad songs though, I don't think it's glorifying depression, it's just talking about the real, relatable human emotion of sadness.

The Maine, TWY, Mayday all write sad songs, and that's completely separate from actual depression. I'm in therapy for depression, but wasn't offended by the title because I'm NOT sad, I wish I was sad.

Depression steals my ability to feel real human emotions like sadness, but when I listen to sad songs, or happy songs, or angry songs it makes me feel like a real human person.

    Sadness =/= depresion/mental health issues

You're clearly allowed to feel how you feel, I'm not judgung, I just don't read this as an attempt to capitalize on sadness more than any other aspect of this scene.

The tour forum and this thread are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum. Its insane going in there.

echoing what others have said, extremely disappointing and while i dont think I'll ever be able to sever the ties i have with TWY music its this continuing ignorance that makes me not even want to talk about them. Its distressing how easily it was for JJR to just kind of brush all of this aside and continue to have a career while simultaneously still being on friendly terms with SO MANY other musicians in the scene.

Persistent sadness is a very real symptom of depression.

You should rethink your position here.

But it's not exclusive to depression. I understand what you are saying, but more times than not people describe depression as "numbness" & "emptyness" which is not sadness at all.

Sadness is something we all go through and I think talking about it is something that should happen more instead of supressing it. Naming a festival after it isn't the best way to do that, but conflating that with glorifying depression seems a bit extreme to me.

In fact, the songs are sad more than anything, more than the people.

Idk, I'm all ears to other experiences, but associating an emotion with a mental health disorder just seems completely opposite to me.

Out of curiosity, is there something stopping you from doing this from a 'site possibility' standpoint? Or just not allowing posts/threads about specific artists, labels, etc...?

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Can you please not sit here and try to invalidate people’s depression and how they feel? This is an extremely shallow way of looking at it and doesn’t help anything at all. There’s ways to go about promoting mental health, but marketing it as sadness being something great and funny isn’t the way to do it.

  22. I have given a lot of thought to there being some small fee to create an account, like a buck or something, to address certain issues on the site. But never had the guts to do it.

That would be pretty impossible to moderate and I'm not even sure how it could be done. A list of bands not to talk about would also just end up moving all the conversations about them to places without people that care to bring up the problematic issues with them, which I think would be counter productive.

The Mayo Clinic disagrees with your assessment, as does the NIMH, ADAA, and a plethora of other organizations. Obviously, depression is more than just sadness and people who aren't depressed can experience it, but no one is saying that it is exclusive to depression. You're completely missing the point here.

  24. I absolutely despise how true this is, but here we are.
