I don't post much in the music forum really, and I typically stay in my own music bubble as far as news is concerned. Thankfully this kind of terrible shit rarely crosses over into stuff I listen to.

  2. And I'm fond of your tattoos, and the way you always criticise the Smiths
    And Morrissey

It’s just that he’s SO famous. I mean he has to be one of the most iconic (for better news or worse) and universally known people in alternative music. Like even just from pop culture osmosis The Smiths are everywhere, whether seriously referenced or as parody/punchlines. It’s kind of blowing my mind to not even be aware of him as a show-canceling self-important meme.

I was reading an article today about venues in the UK saying they are unable to give people refunds for the upcoming Ryan Adams tour because the dates are not cancelled and the tour is still on at this point. That seems really shitty to me. How have these things been handled in the past...???

Well, The Smiths are another name that I recognize but don't know anything about. I don't think I could name a song by either them or Morrissey.

I don’t know if this kind of issue has really come up before. I’ve been thinking about it personally lately since I often buy tickets to shows so far in advance. What happens when you buy a “no refunds under any circumstances” ticket and then no longer want to support them? I feel like new policies will have to be enacted to allow for this kind of moral problem to be addressed.

Also the scumbag musicians could do actual good and cancel their own tours so crushed fans don’t have to put it more time and effort and emotions into getting their money back.

Knowing how much TV and movies you watch, I guarantee you’ve heard probably an album’s worth and didn’t realize it. Lol. There’s a great parody in the oscars thread that sums up his vocal style, it’s very distinctive.

Also my heart is now broken because you definitely haven’t read or seen Perks of Being a Wallflower and EVERYONE needs to have that in their lives.

I don't really go to a lot of live shows compared to a lot of people that I hear about, and I've never tried to get a refund on a ticket before - is that normal practice with tickets, you cannot get a refund unless the venue or the artist cancel the show...?

Almost always. Sometimes you can buy “insurance” in case of emergency where you can’t go, but that’s often a hassle or limiting and obviously adds more to the up front cost.

I assume there are really specific cases where you could speak to an actual human and beg if it’s like a family emergency or something, but even that I don’t think would be easy.

I was thrilled when Jawbreaker canceled their NJ show because of the weather, since from where I was traveling I would be in unsafe conditions and unable to go but still not be able to get a refund.

Wow. I didn't realize that. This ends up being a real tough situation, because it seems like the resolution hinges on Ryan Adams to not be a piece of shit and just cancel the tour, which at this point, and knowing how he can be, seems precarious at best.

Did Wil delete his reddit comment only after all of this blew up?

Georgia's statement suggests he/his band refused to remove it but now its deleted (was linked here: https://forum.chorus.fm/posts/935444 )

probably him just trying to cover his tracks now

I read the AMA and the original comment when it happened and checked back sometime later (not recently) and the comment was gone, so it was deleted at some point before this has all transpired

So I bought a ticket to see Pinegrove in Chicago and now I’m conflicted. I’ve been hearing there is more that Evan has done than the one accusation and that he has not fully respected the victims wishes. I feel horrible supporting him if that is the case. I used to be a huge fan of him and o don’t know if I could justify going to see them now. Have any of you gone to the shows since their return? Were you morally okay with it?

I have not. And while I will admit that I think Skylight is a good album, I haven’t bought it and I would not attend a show. For me personally I am not comfortable supporting that band financially in any way. Everyone has their own way of handling these situations. But for me I will never financially support Pinegrove.

The thing is they already got my money since I bought a ticket so there’s nothing I can do there, unfortunately.

You could try to get a refund. Or, aren’t all their shows on this tour sold out? You could sell your ticket for likely more than you paid for it and then donate whatever you get to a charity like RAINN.

It's such a personal decision. I personally would still not go even if I could not get a refund, because I feel that being in the crowd while the band plays is still supporting them, albeit to a lesser degree than the act of paying money for the ticket, but it really is what you feel comfortable and okay with.

Was listening to a podcast where they mentioned Tim Armstrong from Rancid started dating Brody Dalle from the Distillers when he was 29 and she was 16... after looking into it (not even deeply) it seems like he was very abusive too. Is this something that everyone knows and just kind of ignores or has it actually been talked about and I just never noticed
