wrap yourself in petals for armor.

You don't have to care about the people who made it, but maybe you should care about the people who were victimized because of it. Your call though.

  3. If when someone gets outted as a piece of shit your **first instinct** is to argue about how you can still listen to the music, like I got nothing to say to you beside shut up and go do it elsewhere.

I don’t have the patience to deal with most of this, but I just want you to consider how insensitive this attitude would seem to a survivor of abuse. Saying there’s nothing anyone could do to make you stop listening to their music is inherently choosing the side of an abuser over the side of a victim.

  6. Of all of the exposés about men in the music industry doing awful things to women, gotta admit that this is by far the one that is least surprising to me, which is not to downplay the seriousness of what RA did but just a comment on his general character or lack thereof.

  8. I mean, i know this really isn't the point, but imagine being a person who loves music and saying "actually music is NOT personal at all"

The fact that he specifically compares himself to R. Kelly in that message is so disgusting, and it also blows my mind that Kelly is such a well known predator that even other predators use him as a reference.

Imagine having a Thursday reference in your username and genuinely arguing that music isn’t personal and the context of it doesn’t matter at all.

It’s impossible to separate the art from the artist even if their music isn’t personal because giving them attention/a platform is how they were able to get away with abuse in the first place

  16. That's quite a change of tone from earlier... lemme just juxtapose those two statements for ya Ryan.

I'll admit I could have worded that part better. But what I meant was that music isn't personal with regards to the person who made it. I love Thursday songs because of Geoff's vocals, evocative lyricism and quality riffs and drums. It has absolutely nothing to do with the band as people, and the songs would connect with me just the same even if Geoff got caught doing predatory shit. Art is only personal with how the art interacts with me, and nothing with how the person who made the art is as a person.

Holy shit, I didn't even see those earlier tweets. The new "apology" is shitty on its own, too, though. "hearing that some people believe I caused them pain saddens me greatly" is just about as dodgy as you can get.

*doesn’t want to just admit they don’t care that women were abused and their careers derailed for the sake of Ryan Adams’ Bad art*

Actually, music means absolutely nothing to me. It is simply a string of notes and tones that an algorithm could put together and I’d appreciate all the same

  23. I want to apologize to the entire thread for using the phrase "separating the art from the artist" in the first place because it brought this mess upon us.
