Ryan Adams definitely seems like an asshole but idk if this is really the thread for that tweet in particular?

I like what he's saying but all the comments are saying he also choked his girlfriend. Is that real or something that's being twisted or something?

I'm so out of touch on hip hop

Yeah, he admitted to it in an interview with The Breakfast Club.

Not to sound defensive because that's something I've wrestled with about him in the past but he admitted it of his own volition in a song/interview and has taken a lot of steps to rectify it with her and with himself. If he wants to take his past experience and learn from it by being one of the few speaking out against it in hip-hop I'm all for it (although I obviously wish it never happened in the first place)

Had a convo with a coworker who likes the same kind of music as me/this site but doesn't really frequent online forums or social media and even though he loves BN I casually mentioned what happened with Jesse and he was shocked/had no idea. Most people don't really care about artists personal lives and their fandom starts and ends with the music. Really doubt people are trying to prove a point rather than just not knowing about Jesse Lacey outside of being a singer in a band.

I really think online communities, specifically this one, severely overestimate the level of personal involvement most people have with bands. Like most people probably think Pinegrove took a year off like many bands do, for example.

In a strange twist of events, the first time I heard brand new in a year was in the caf at the hospital's psychiatric ward last week. Definitely the last place I thought I'd hear them.

So is Into It Over It done/blacklisted from the “scene”? I know since Evans shit statement he’s been keeping quiet and i haven’t been able to listen since then, but just curious what the consensus is?

He is still performing with Pet Symmetry so my answer is no, he may just be writing new music or something.

Is the expectation that someone making a bad statement means they should stop playing music...?

No, but I feel iffy about supporting a man who told a woman to “play nice” with a dude sexually harassing her and threatened her career because it would be a hassle for him to deal with it.

rest assured the Evan Weiss thing will be swept under the rug and forgotten all about by the powers that be in the scene, no need to worry about him stopping music. now whether or not that should be his punishment, not my place, but he certainly won’t catch the flack he deserves

When the Evan thing happened Pet Symmetry got kicked off the Real Friends holiday show but Evans show on New Year’s Eve wasn’t canceled. Pet Symmetry “took a break” but it only lasted until July of this year when they started playing shows again.

I also feel like on this message board most of the members have similar ideologies making it seem like not only is information known but the feelings about the information is shared

I think the Ryan Adams thing was posted in here and then deleted cause it didn't quite fit the thread but tbh I feel like it does in a more insidious way like no it's not rape or sexual assault but I do feel like it's a weird coercive controlling thing men do sometimes that can feel abusive like a woman dares to finally leave a bad situation and the man drags her and just insults her to knock her down a few pegs and make her feel bad and then all the trash fans coddle him like a little kid ugh he's such a douche and I feel like that attitude is why so many women stay in bad situations so even tho he's not as bad as some discussed in here I feel like he is still feeding into the culture. Srsly screw him.

  21. No, what he did was appalling and cruel and felt all too familiar. I have no patience left for angry men whose only reaction to extreme emotion is to hurt others, it might not be assault but I personally think it's part of the larger conversation we're having.

  22. Yeah the Ryan Adams thing is really toxic. There's a difference between being angry at the person for the way things ended vs making digs at them on Twitter and being intentionally hurtful.

Like honestly all he did was prove her point. And what she said about him was so tame and the fact he felt the need to react like that is v telling. Men who talk about their exes like that is like my #1 red flag

What did he say? Admittedly I’m a Ryan Adams fan, but always wince when he starts tweeting and definitely feel like he needs to let Mandy go and live her life.

She said that she chose the wrong person and it wasnt a good situation and he responded by saying he knew it was doomed because she didn't like a band he liked and said he was drunk when they got married and he didn't even remember marrying her/thought it was a joke and called her the spiritual equivalent of a soggy piece of cardboard like just had a meltdown trying to knock her down a peg and demean her and their relationship for saying what she did it was rly pathetic and made Mandy appear all the more correct and graceful
