The guys in BSB should absolutely be dragged to hell and back for this - especially Brian for that disgusting comment - I just think it does a disservice to both the survivor and the conversation to minimize their standing in music. Makes it easier to pretend this doesn't matter, you know?

Can someone tell me why that is a bad thing? Like, I don't see an issue with an artist saying they don't want to alienate their fans based on political beliefs.

 

yeaah they're christians from georgia who came up in the christian metal scene so unfortunately there are a few reasons why they might hold some not great ideals

 

bc maga hats are becoming ever-increasingly synonymous with state-sanctioned white supremacist violence against minorities, women, and queer people

 

Allowing symbols of hate, and those that proudly display them, into your show is alienating their fans based on political beliefs. It's picking their side while saying you'd rather they be there than the oppressed and marginalized feel safe. That, in itself, is a political statement.

Being "neutral" is a side, or to quote the famous adage: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."

 

I can't understand anyone supporting Trump but not being racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, a greedy asshole, or a combination of any of these. So yeah, wearing that hat means to me that you're a dick, and potentially a dangerous one.

 

And it's become a symbol of antagonistic platitudes these days, so people wearing it are doing it to get a rise out of others.

The confederate flag is all over any imaginable piece of merchandise all over the south.

Growing up, I didn't even know or was taught it was a bad symbol in any way. Like, at all.
