I've spoken with someone at Hopeless that says this is 100% false. That no one has told any band not to comment and the bands have chosen to not comment on their own. So, I was lied to, but alas. Also, the label appears to believe they've investigated the Moose Blood situation and the band has fully denied this happening so there's no reason for anyone else to comment.

After I've spent more time researching Moose Blood and this specific situation (and some of the other things that have been whispered about this band for a while) ... I still strongly disagree. The accuser has not backed down when threatened with legal bills. The accuser is still publicly saying this took place, under her real name, to this day. I believe women that come forward. I also believe that the label, and the bands on the label, should take a more active role in making this music scene a safer place. I can talk about it until I'm blue in the face, but I can't drop a band. I can't not tour with a band. My words will never mean near as much as if a big name on that label would say "I believe women." And that's why I push bands and labels to weed this out from within.

Said it before, I personally know a lot of current bands in the scene support Moose Blood, just not publicly.

I don't know how people are hearing this "grapevine" stuff though, I haven't seen anyone on UK Pop Punk mention it and I'd have thought that community would be the first to know?

  7. Why does everyone assume that The Wonder Years fly the flag for social justice in the scene? I love their music as well as their messages but I feel like assuming they’re somehow immune to all of this is kind of a weak outlook.

If anything I think their silence when it comes to problems surrounding the scene shows they certainly aren't flying any flag.

What a douche. He's "apologizing" on his own twitter account by making everything about himself, his personal struggles with mental health, etc.

I've never been to Warped Tour, being from Europe, but man... I've been reading the stories every year and it seems like such a shit show. I wonder if the tour's disappearance has anything to do with Vans / other sponsors and suppliers / cities being forced not to turn a blind eye to these behaviors anymore.

This is very true of many “problematic” bands. I think it’s important to remember that while we have seen positive changes in the past few years, this scene is and probably always will be a boy’s club. Back in 2015 when I was constantly throwing myself at these situations, the number one question I would get from men in bands was “When will it be okay for me to be friends with them again?” And I’m not saying that people should ditch their friends- I think that friendship is a huge part of the accountability process. No one’s ever going to change if we’re not giving them a reason to, and total ostracization doesn’t do that. But it’s telling that the first thing on these dudes’ minds wasn’t “how can I help” or “how can I make a difference” - it was always, in short, “when will it be socially acceptable for me to start ignoring this again.” I guess a lot of them decided that the answer was “right away.”

Look, I'm just sayin' I don't really trust anything a Hopeless rep is going to claim about their supposed ethical behaviour re their bands' freedom of expression on labelmates in this situation, also I really doubt they told the bands "say what you want about moose blood", I think it's clear they just didn't tell them not to say anything. The two are... not equivalent at all.

  13. I'm having flashbacks. Sheesh.

But seriously: I ~love~ answering that question because it's like, do what you want. You just don't get to divorce yourself from the repercussions and you have to own what message you send with your actions because y'all are public figures. Alexa, play "Untitled" by Simple Plan.

This is Very Correct. You can put all the bands who went on tour with them recently in that bag, but also an actually large chunk of UK bands — probably the majority. Scan the 2000 Trees lineup and you can pretty much bet that most of these men have that attitude.
(Again, that's not true of every band who plays a festival with them or is on a label with them and doesn't say anything. There were a few bands I respect very much, most with women, like Nervus, who were on that Trees lineup and who didn't say anything, but you can guess how they feel about those trash-heaps.)
What's important here is, yeah, most of the bands in this scene, the meat of this scene, don't care. they're waiting for the outrage's expiration date to come, for a very simple reason : they've done the kind of shit moose blood have done. Of course they feel a duty, a brotherhood to them.
