Multiple things can be true. They can be transphobic and be held accountable for that, but that article is still bad "journalism".

I think you are all taking that article WAAAAY too seriously haha. It's written by Ryan who used to write for Kerrang and is now the presenter of a podcast, and everything he does is meant to be amusing.

I think it's real funny! It's clear it's not meant to be "actual" "journalism". I posted it to give context to the kind of band we were dealing with here: a pure market product, which is always hard to hold accountable due to lack of actual ties in music communities.

Exactly. People may disagree with the presentational style (clearly poking fun), but it's a blog post on medium, it doesn't have to be serious. And it's style doesn't negate all the relevant points it mentions.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your last sentence. But I still disagree that it's funny and that it shouldn't be judged for being shitty when it's being shitty.

I didn't read past the part where the writer judged them based solely on appearance, after stating they weren't going to judge them based solely on appearance, because, well I don't have time for that kind of BS.

How did he judge them as a band based on that? He made a joke. I think you took the article weirdly seriously aha.

In the end, this entire discussion shouldn't really be had here in this thread. Let's leave it.

I didn't say he judged them as a band, but he still judged them based on appearance. Which I don't think is okay.

That's fair and I guess if you don't know who the author is, and that he was mostly joking, I can see why the article in general may rub you the right way.

    Let's agree to disagree.

Anyway let's stop worrying about the fee fees of a band of wealthy cis dudes and go back to the point of this thread.
There's a worrying amount of kids twisting into knots trying to defend them, as always

The article is hilarious and has some constructive criticism amongst its painfully obvious (and abundant) sarcasm imo. Definitely would’ve benefited from speaking on the worse shit they’ve done tho

Also did we forget about the great tortilla war that happened two weeks ago? Threads can incorporate some other topics for second as long as we don’t become obsessed with it forever

i came across this thread last night looking for something entirely different and as i was reading and going through the pages i kept thinking about this gross experience i had with hedley as a teen. i wasn't gonna say anything really ever because on the scale of gross things band dudes have done, it was really not a huge issue and i'm not in the scene at all really anymore. but then i saw this and now i'm shocked and feel like you guys are reading my mind, lol.

in 2006 i watched jacob and tommy gleefully sign some 16 year olds bare tits. she legit walked up to them at the merch booth, in front of a crowd of people, and just pulled up her shirt and they signed it. she didn't really even know who they were either, and i'm still really confused as to how they even got booked at the show i went to anyway (i'm not canadian.)

i was already like really disgusted because i was 15 myself and while i was around bands for a while i hadn't seen like, gross shit like that yet. jacob tried to get my friend, who was also 16, and i to try and go back to the afterparty but it didn't happen because my dad had to drive us home and he wouldn't let her go lol. but as we were leaving, we were hanging around outside smoking cigarettes, and tommy comes up to me and asks me if i'm gonna give him head. i was legit so shocked i was just like "errr...no" and he scoffed, called me ugly, and walked away. i never even liked hedley before that, and i was so fucking angry and disgusted at the way they acted that i just avoided them for the rest of my time in the scene, which i mean wasn't really that hard considering they're kind of nobodies in america.
