Tbt to the time Kevin Lyman said I wasn’t a real activist because I once posted a selfie with a face mask on.

  4. unrelated but kind of related because I saw they're going on warped--whatever happened to the NFG shitbag who turned out to have a thing for underage girls? please tell me he's rotting in a cell somewhere.

AFAIK they kicked him out before the arrest went public. He went to trial in 2016 but a cursory google search isn’t helping me out w/r/t sentencing

i got into a twitter argument with kevin lyman like 5 years ago, is he still picking fights with 18-20 year olds on twitter?

  8. yeah they definitely kicked him out, was wondering whether he was convicted. probably not, there'd be an article about it. too bad.

  9. Why the fuck couldn't Kevin keep Falling in Reverse or Front Porch Step off Warped Tour in recent years but that band Islander damages a drum kit and they're kicked off the tour?

  10. That ...

    ... that is a question.

Maybe because he wanted to have a diversity of bad opinions.

Love that he's like "jk i would NEVER" as if he definitely didn't have anti-choice/anti-abortion people run a booth on certain dates of the fest as recently as like two years ago in addition to constantly enabling abusers. I really don't understand the amount of people willing to make excuses for him when its very clearly a telling pattern

Looks like Nick from McCafferty has apologized again on Twitter...

We'll see if it was self-serving or not in a month or so

I think he's proved his apology won't be genuine, not such a short time after his weird meltdown mix of transphobia and tone policing

Also it sucks that after this like three day meltdown and multiple people trying to get through to him in different ways it took the work of zoe from kississippi (it seems based on his tweets, obviously i do not know what goes on behind the scenes) to get through to him. Like a million people are telling him where he fucked up. not one of his friends including diymidwest or whatever who was partially involved in the beginning of this decided to pull outside and explain to him despite their constant insistence that hes working on himself and changing. Part of the reason kississippi was involved it seems was because zoe expressed her own discomfort and it sucks to have to spell out to someone whos upset you and countless others exactly why when they've been hostile for a long period of time. I guess I just wish cis men could self reflect sometime. Also obviously I know little about what happened in private so i'm making surface level assumptions

  18. Anyone watch the Hannah Gadsby special? I felt like the part about art vs artist was one of the best distilled arguments on the topic in a long time.

It honestly was one of the most powerful and affirming and necessary things i've ever watched. The part that really got me about art and artist (and I agree that its definitely probably the best formulated and articulated discussions of it i've seen) is when talking about picasso and how people are willing to sacrifice a young girls wellbeing as well as future potential for his art that in the grand scheme of things those who defend it will barely even think about or interact with in their daily life

The other point she brings up about how womens narratives in arts are either "virgins or whores" are interesting because picasso quite literally said “For me there are only two kinds of women: goddesses and doormats.”

There's definitely a weird narrative of "artists are either BAD or TORTURED people but its okay because that makes them GROUNDBREAKING" when in reality, plenty of perfectly like good people make good art. In fact art that just continues to push power structures in place in society but do it bluntly or with a lot of purple or whatever aren't all that revolutionary. The reason we see or hear about less art from those pushing against oppression especially if from a marginalized class is because 1) mainstream media and archives are not going to promote a lot of work challenging social norms in fear of knowing it either directly challenges them, their audience, or those who fund them 2) a lot of those who do make it to some recognition usually get simplified 3) many people facing oppression just do not have resources or opportunity to gain public recognition. Misogyny is not new or revolutionary

Sorry if im rambling, I watched it two nights ago and have been buzzing with thoughts since and nowhere to say them. That part specifically was so nice because of how often women are boiled down to a sacrifice or martyr or whatever role for a shitty dudes basic art rather than have their own story. I'm so glad Hannah Gadsby got to tell hers in some capacity

  20. This is such a great point. When watching it I couldn't help but think of some of the artists accused of this exact kind of thing in the past few years and this so perfectly explained why it was important to talk about it and not just sweep it away under the guise of "male genius."

I would challenge anyone to watch that and still try and make the arguments for giving Brand New a "pass" or say it's not a big deal.

Awsten has always been incredibly annoying and immature so this isn’t surprising. Bums me out that so many teens clamor at his every word and seemingly find this hilarious, when the poor driver is probably going to get into serious trouble.
