On the one hand... yikes and heavy sigh.

On the other hand, this is probably one of the more honest answers to this question that I've seen, and addresses the elephant in the room: a lot of this behavior boils down to young cis men not being required to respect the autonomy of others, or to self soothe in ways that aren't violent or aggressive re: other human beings. It's not an excuse any more than it makes it okay, but it's a reason and a societal issue.

I'm not a gay man so there are levels to this I'm simply not qualified to discuss. But my heart is heavy.

 

This whole Kardashian/Jordyn thing has been so exhausting with ppls commentary. This family contributes so much misogyny and negativity into society

 

Sometimes I feel like Kimmy Schmidt with my knowledge of that family, but I have somehow avoided everything about this story except for the names involved. From the headlines everything about it sounds super toxic.

 

I don’t think it’s entirely fair to blame the family for this situation, they’ve been mostly passive in it from what I understand? Like it was something that happened pertaining to them so people care but it wasn’t anything they did

 

Also I’m rly not meaning to always stick up for them lmao like I do agree that they contribute a lot of harmful misogynistic things but this specific one feels like not exactly worth blaming on them? Since it was actions taken by two people outside the family

Eh they give stories to tmz and have tweeted and Kylie discounting her lipstick and they're being hypocritical af. They have a lot of power with the media. I def think they're exploiting the situation for ratings but it's like spawning all of this awful sexist commentary and idk. And they are participating in it themselves like lol Khloe she didn't ruin ur family. He's cheated on you a million times over including when u were pregnant and I'm pretty sure he was taken when u got with him too so liiike. She's only going after Jordyn and not him at all despite his abusive pattern of cheating and maybe she's too caught up in a cycle to see it, but the whole situation is a bummer. I have a hard time watching the demise of a young womans reputation and all the focus being on her when the bar is so low for him that he's flying under the radar. like she is responsible for her actions but damn ppl are way too gleeful in taking her down

 

That’s prob true (about leaking stories). Def exploiting the situation but idk. I know khloe did retract and clarify that Jordyn didn’t ruin her family etc so idk at least it’s good that she recognized and said that. But I personally feel like I understand her pain bc that feels like a whole ass portrayal. And NOT saying I agree with it or that it makes it right but khloe did say she only commented on it publicly because Jordan was “lying” (?) publicly and that she was holding Tristan accountable privately because that’s how he approached it. Which makes sense.
I think you’re totally right that people are way too gleeful about taking her down/ruining her reputation etc. people just like gossip and this story checks all the boxes.
Also obviously no one will ever know the full story so it’s nothing but speculation but of course when someone comes out with a statement of “telling their truth” and multiple people are saying it’s NOT the truth.... idk you just end up side eyeing both sides. It’s a hella toxic situation for sure.

What is crazy is the amount of people saying things about how she bit the hand that feeds and would be ‘nothing’ without them and all this stuff. Like I think a lot of the commentary it brought out is way uglier than even the situation itself yknow? It’s gross

 

Yeah the whole situation is ugly and I do feel like the family has fanned the flames. Like discounting that lipkit was deliberate and Kylie knew what she was doing and what that would be encouraging. They're focusing the lense all on Jordyn and maybe that is because the friendship aspect is the bigger betrayal to them but that has ramifications and imo part of why so much of this story is focused on Jordyn and Tristan is sliding by. Society sucks but like the Kardashians are also keeping the lens on Jordyn as well. And it's not the first time the Kardashians have stood by their trash men and thrown the woman under the bus so I'm inclined to be distrustful of them off the bat.

Also ia lmao the biting the hand that feeds comments are so ridic. Like no way Jordyn is friends with the Kardashians/Jenner's/Smiths without coming from money herself. Like sure she's prob not Kardashian rich, but they didn't just pick her up off the street. She was in their social circle for a reason.

Since the red table focuses a lot on social issues I wish they would've made it more about the way society views women in this situation. like dang I know she's not a kid but 21 is young AF and when ppl do their most dumb stuff. He's almost 30 and the bar for him is so low he's just expected to cheat so nobody gaf. It's sad.

 

there was also that way she went after Chloe Grace Moretz, who I don't think either one was right in that situation but Chloe was also 19 and Khloe was in her 30s

Yeah I forgot about that. Idk it's hard to say how I'd act in this situation because I've never been in it, but if my bf slept with a 21 year old I'd be so disgusted by how pathetic he is and I'm way closer to 21 than Khloe. If I was 35 and my bf cheated on me with a 21 year old like ugh let him have the youths because he is pathetic. But I also don't have any of the emotional ties so you know there's that lol it's easier to be on the sidelines and stuff.

 

Yeah i think it’s really easy for all sides to get caught up in the drama and gossip and forget that all parties involved are human beings. Like you said, one of which being fairly young. I think people just have a lot of opinions because we all know cheating is a huge betrayal but most people feel that if it was someone with that relationship to you (close family friend) it would definitely feel like even more of a betrayal. And as WRONG as it is I know the general mentality is “Tristan was a cheater and we all knew that so it was expected but Jordyn is the one that no one saw coming” so that’s why they’re focusing on that aspect of it
I guess I just understand the emotional distress of it all lol but it’s also deff important to look at it through different lenses

I also agree I wish the red table would have dissected it more like the ways you said. Offering a greater cultural conversation beyond “tell your truth and people make mistakes” like I thought jada was wise through the whole thing but yeah so much more could have been discussed

 

That’s so gross. This is how people with raunchy humor who don’t have anyone saying no to them never get told where the line is and what’s inappropriate and not okay. Then again they don’t rly listen when people say what isn’t okay typically so

So about that Leaving Neverland documentary...

 

I'm honestly torn by the documentary. Like I love Michael's music to death but there's always been this elephant in the room about his accusations and I'm not sure if I can sit through it without getting upset about it, at least not right now. I do feel for the men who's come forward about their encounters with him and I stand by them regardless of how I feel about Michael's music.

 

I've seen the show. I get it. "Surprise--There's actually seven of us! It's just that one of us is dead..." It was a bad decision, but I get it.

A character uses it in the show. The word I was looking for is defintely "goodwill." Heh, my bad.

 

Has anybody here watched it?

I’m curious about it, but I know it’s going to be horrifying to watch.

 

It’s very upsetting but very compelling, and much more about the process of healing (or not) than it is about Michael himself almost.

 

Ok then I’ll give it a go

 

I watched it the other night. First part focuses on two victims, who (along with their family members) talk at length about their time with Michael Jackson and them reflecting on it now. When they get to describing the patterns of abuse, they go into pretty vivid detail about everything that happened. At the very least, it'll make you very uncomfortable and can be very distressing for some, I'd imagine. As someone who didn't follow the allegations very closely back then, it's worth a watch.

 

I plan on watching it. Considering I was a kid when the first set of allegations surfaced in the early 90s, I’ve always associated it with him. Just today Corey Feldman addressed that nothing bad occurred between he and Michael yet he’s been open about being molested/sought after by powerful show biz figures when he was a kid. As a commenter of an article pointed out, Michael didn’t target famous kids like him and Macaulay Culken intentionally since they were too high profile.

 

I'd also highly recommend the Oprah special "After Neverland" which aired on HBO/OWN right after the documentary finished up. It's a pretty powerful summary of the aims of the documentary itself, and also an honest and direct conversation about the healing process.
