There are some times in my life when I know I have been an absolute asshole to a total stranger just because they managed to really piss me off on a bad day.

I mean, I didn't pull an Ezra Miller on them or anything, but sometimes strangers are assholes and push your buttons.

That was the most casual "get out of the way" and almost sounded joking lol. If I'm not mistaken Bill Clinton just walked in there and she was like "I'm out", that one is a reach

I wouldn’t usually post something like that in here, and would normally agree it is a reach, and most people I’d give the benefit of the doubt, but she has a reputation for a reason is all and I’m not inclined to believe she’s changed.

I agree it’s not a big deal but I think famous people can say excuse me like everyone else. I don’t think it was posted as something in and of itself that needs accountability. Just as a follow up showing some rudeness.

I guess it's a little more nuanced, but jokes in a standup set don't have to be real even if they're told like they are.

dont most comedians embellish their stories for effect? not saying the people who are criticizing him are wrong at all because theyre right but im also not surprised he fabricated anything.

  12. Yeah but I feel like there's a difference between embellishing and claiming someone mailed anthrax to your house lol

Yeah his claims were pretty specific and he dressed his comedy up as heartfelt emotional truth, which is I think why it rubs some the wrong way with just how absurd the claims are knowing that they’re fake. Also the one about the girl he asked to prom apparently led to people harassing her, which isn’t great when the crux of the joke about her family being against them dating because of his race isn’t true

I just keep thinking about the Swardson (yes, I know, he is actually problematic) bit about his cat having diarrhea. I don't think you should expect anything a comedian says on stage during their act to be true.

I don't think that was part of Rannazzisi's act, but a personal anecdote he would tell.

Hasan also definitely told some of these stories in interviews too, I remember a couple from NPR more than his act

a cat having diarrhea and your entire first special being based around your prom dates family being racist when it's completely made up are different things

Not really. The social contract you enter into when you're at a standup show is that you're going to be told fabricated and exaggerated stories for the explicit purpose of making you laugh. If you're telling those stories outside of that to trick people into believing you, then it's an issue.

Sure, as we've definitely seen things people say on stage can absolutely be harmful. Is this that? I'm not sure, and will him telling those stories on stage have the effect of others not being believed? Again not so sure. He's not punching down.

I don’t know man making up a story about your child opening a letter with anthrax in it for laughs is fucking weird.
