I heard there was a very tense feeling at his Dragon Con panel because of this, but I don’t know if anyone pressed him on it specifically.

Also John Barrowman did some super creepy/gross stuff at a panel and told a really horrible story to raucous applause. I hope someone got video because I didn’t have time to record but it sucked.

  8. L.A. District Attorney won’t pursue sexual assault cases against Kevin Spacey, Steven Seagal, and Anthony Anderson
While the court of public opinion passed their judgement on Kevin Spacey when his latest film, Billionaire Boys Club, took in just $618 on its opening weekend, the legal system has been far kinder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has announced that it won’t be prosecuting sexual assault cases levied against the former House of Cards star, nor those alleged against Steven Seagal and Anthony Anderson.

As far as the specific charges against Spacey and Putin’s Pal Seagal, the DA determined that the statue of limitations had passed in both instances. In the case of Anderson, meanwhile, the black-ish actor was accused of assaulting a woman in July. However, authorities say that “the reporting party has declined to be interviewed by the investigating officer,” so the case could not go forward.

Wait, but I was under the impression that people saying bad things about these dudes on the Internet amounted to a violation of their due process and ruined their careers?

It’s almost like that isn’t even the case.

This might be a stupid question lol but aside from like patriarchal society is there a reason a statute of limitations exists? Like lawfully speaking why is that a thing? I get it if it's like Hey I did drugs or stole ten years ago and being imprisoned now is ridic. But if it's like Hey I raped another human being years ago?? Why is there a limitation?

I think you answered your own question, people who wrote those laws wanted to commit those crimes and get away with them

“I personally chose to help a friend,” Black said in a written statement to The Times. “I can understand others might disapprove, as his conviction was on a sensitive charge and not to be taken lightly.”

But he said he has long believed that Striegel was “caught up in a bad situation versus something lecherous.”

why aren't they allowed to run background checks on actors? i've been stuck in background check for my new job for like a month because they couldn't verify a coffee job in 2007 lol

I am in a similar boat - I'm on hold for a new job while they do all sorts of background checking and vetting. Seems silly that they can't run one on actors they are hiring.

This situation reminds me of when my wife and I first bought our house, our first child was just born and we learned that the only pizza place that delivers to our house is a local joint and the delivery guy is a registered sex offender. Now for us it was a no-brainer that we wouldn't be getting delivery anymore but it lead to some very interesting conversations. The delivery person is cousins with the owner and the charges are from when he was 18 or 19, so it's not unreasonable to think he may have had a girlfriend who was a year or two younger and got in trouble for that. Or he may have violently raped a young child. We had long conversations about should the owner have hired his cousin, should the guy be delivering as opposed to maybe just cooking the food, would you hire your own cousin that you love under similar circumstances knowing he has trouble finding employment...?

For me personally a lot of these questions are very black and white, very cut and dry, but people seem to have a lot of trouble when these things hit close to home with someone you care about and respect.

I personally don't buy any of the guy's excuses about how what he did wasn't wrong, and it seems like the courts didn't either as he did jail time, but Shane Black apparently feels differently. I personally would not hire the guy if I were him, but I think it's certainly either A) in really poor taste or B) a purposeful 'fuck you' from Shane Black to have him play 'Jogger Who Harrasses Olivia Munn's Character'.

It seems as though Shane Black was within his rights to hire the guy and not tell any of his cast or crew about the guy's sex offender status, just as Olivia Munn is within hers to learn about it and disclose it to who she sees fit, and the studio is within their to cut the guy's scenes out of the movie.

For me personally the whole situation just seems really boneheaded and stupid on the part of a filmmaker who I've always been a fan of his films.

It's insane that Black hired this guy for "Iron Man 3" like three years after he got out.

Janet also influenced so many of the popstars who came up in the 90s and gets little credit for it. Like Britney is all Janet influence but I feel like Madonna gets credited with a lot of that Era of pop?? Idk
