I don't think "denounce your family if they like Trump or you're one of them" is a productive place to draw a line regarding the character of a person who we have no reason (that I know of) to believe has bad/harmful views. I can't really figure out the right words to explain why but to me that's a pretty unfair ask.

Ftr this is in reference to the twitter comments not Pat. As far as the crop I guess if I were in her shoes I hope I'd be smart enough to not pose for pics with the red hats in them, but on some level I don't really feel like that's any different than cropping them out.

i think there's a pretty wide gap between completely denouncing them and showing that you confront it/don't endorse their views

She could have very easily said something to address people’s concerns, but instead she tweeted nahhh y’all are the ones making this political lol

  4. Maybe I'm just being dismissive but it seems exhausting to care about a famous person's family's political beliefs that I've somehow discovered via photos I wasn't meant to see in the first place

Also agree. Sydney Sweeney’s family are not famous and unless revealed otherwise have views independent from Sydney herself. I don’t see this as an accountability issue at all, because it’s family at the end of the day and I’m sure we all still have a Trump loving relative(s) in our families that we have to be around, despite not sharing the same views as them. How is this any different? Also let’s not forget the pictures were not meant to be public.

Despite it being posted in this thread, I’m not sure anyone in here is actually suggesting Sydney is evil or needs to be held accountable or anything of the sort, but again, if she feels differently from her family it would have been real easy to just say so lol

She chose to post a photo of her dad wearing a blue lives matter shirt lol

I don’t think she should be vilified but also don’t see why she should get the benefit of the doubt. Trumpism is bad enough that once these photos are out there she should denounce those viewpoints if she wants to distance herself from them imo

I’m not criticizing anyone for having this conversation, but imo this is all reading way more like TMZ gossip than something that actually warrants accountability.

  12. My dad has one of those dumbass "If this flag offends you, I'll help you pack!" shirts. It's absolutely dumb as hell, but if I was famous and took a photo with him because he's my dad, obviously not because of whatever he's wearing, and I was self-aware enough not to post it but people found out and got mad at me anyways, I would probably tell them to fuck off lol just being honest here. I don't think every famous person is responsible for denouncing their non-famous family's political opinions.

I mean, I don’t think she has to apologize for her dads views especially if the pictures leaked without her posting them as @Aaron Mook said.

she literally posted them on her IG. the full scope with the fake MAGA hats were posted by her brother. the blue lives matter shirt is on her account.

i don’t entirely disagree but 90% of this thread is “celeb x said something weird or liked a tweet” where there’s literally nothing to be done as well

  20. I didn't see her dad in the background in a blue lives matter shirt, and yes, she should have more self-awareness, but I still think it's just an exhausting thing to care about. I don't care about her dad. Her politics would be the thing I hypothetically care about and I don't have the time, energy, or interest to speculate on that. I don't even watch Euphoria lmao I just think this is a reach. It is what it is. Debating what constitutes an accountability issue is a circular argument we've had a hundred times in this forum and I don't foresee us solving it today

Somebody impacted by far right wing politics being so mainstream thanks in part to Trump is probably more exhausted by favorite celebs in a picture cozying up to someone in a trump hat or blue lives matter shirt and hearing things like “it’s not political”. How convenient to be able to be left out of politics in this country right now

Yeah like, accountability issue or not, nobody is forcing anyone to open or participate in this thread. I say this in the most respectful way possible and I’m not singling anyone out here, but if you don’t have the time or energy to care about something that gets posted in this thread, by all means duck out. Not everyone always needs to chime in. Some people are bothered by things that others aren’t, and that’s okay. Let them be

  23. If this is directed at me, which a I'm assuming it is, you're making some pretty hefty assumptions about myself, the impacts of far right politics I've dealt with, my family (some of whose politics I've already hinted at), and the conversations I've had with them that you're not privy too. Not the best road to go down. But if you're upset by the photos, that's valid and you do you.

Also, again, I don’t think anyone here is calling for Sydney to be canceled or anything even close to that, but wilfully posting a dumb, divisive picture and then tweeting “don’t make this political!!!” to an audience that was clearly bothered by it is dumb as hell and is absolutely deserving of some level of criticism lol

To be honest, something has to give with this way of thinking with people. Nobody is perfect, the world isn’t black and white. People are getting way too overboard with this, yes accountability matters and some people definitely deserve to be called out for their shitty behavior. But goddamn, how pedantic can people be calling out other people for shit?
