Yeah it sucks that people seem to just pounce when a woman publicly messes up. But at the same time if she's enabling abusive men but trying to frame it the opposite way that genuinely sucks. But again idk because abusive men edit and twist stuff like that too. I hope she says something about it soon because I really liked her whole mindset she spoke about with booksmart and this film with centering women and making them feel comfortable on set. It really makes me root for her and she's made it part of her brand enough I feel like she should say something

 

Oof, the comments under that video from the Harry stans are uncomfortably reminiscent of the Johnny Depp stans during the trial with Amber Heard.

 

All the dumb misogyny aside, Olivia definitely comes out of that looking not great. Like it’s not only the video but the fact that she hired him to begin with

I think that was the narrative that was going before this was all released, and now people are feeling like Flo has been regarded unfairly. At the least if I was her i wouldn't wanna touch any of this promo. Like she's Oscar nominated and the director was apparently trying to throw her under the bus to keep an abuser on set? I'd ghost them all.

 

Yeah it's def similar vibes. And given the super out of context audio that was leaked from that situation I want to give olivia the benefit of the doubt here, knowing abusive men often frame things to suit their narrative, but yeah she's not coming off good. Obv not a reason to be sexist and awful. I think there are a lot of harry styles fans who have been waiting for her downfall. It's one thing to be critical of her actions and another to like revel in it and that line is def being crossed. I think it's an example of how women can be complicit and uphold these systems that enable abusers, but the people being vile seem to be coming from bad faith

Also idk why Shia even had to mention twigs in his email. Olivia didn't even mention that. He needs to leave her out of this.

Shia's abusive behavior is so well-known he shouldn't have been cast in the first place. Mia wasikowska spoke out about his on set behavior years ago.

 

Yeeeeeaaaaaah those two points are what I keep kicking around in my head. Whyyyyyy are people so gleeful about tearing other people down to the ground on social media to the point that they are literally reveling in watching someone’s life fall apart? I love and hate the internet so much all in equal measure and it’s maddening. And then, yeah, why was Shia cast in the first place? It is indeed very well known at this point. Right up there with Louie getting a documentary being made about his return.

 

Everything surrounding this movie has become so bizarre so fast. I’d love to give Olivia the benefit of the doubt but I’m not sure what additional context would make her look better in this scenario. I don’t understand why she’d lie about firing him. Especially when there’s seemingly quite a bit of evidence clearly stating the opposite. I feel like I blinked and this movie turned into a soap opera

it seems like Variety maybe framed her words in a weird way and the timeline of when that exchange with Shia is was unclear, so still gross that she still wanted to work with Shia and didn't protect Florence more but people might have just interpreted it as being fired when she never explicitly said it

eh. i agree idk what to do with it but i don't really agree it shows she's uncomfortable about it, to me it shows more a) she has a good team that knows how it looks/b) she knows it would cause blowback regardless of how she feels about it so it's just as easy to crop it out

her tweet about it doesn't really help, saying "i just wanted to go to my mom's bday and leave politics out of it." like, you should probably confront your mom's politics a bit!

 

I don’t know I have seen some stories promoting her because she came from some humble roots and then you look at those roots and they aren’t so humble or uh tolerant to say the least

 

On the one hand it's kinda funny because that's literally her character arc in White Lotus

On the other hand every nepotism baby for sure has a more problematic back story

 

Nobody actually knows anything here. Why do we assume she hasn't argued with her family about politics? And whether she has (or hasn't), what business is it of anyone else? These types of non-stories usually say more about Twitter than they do the subjects.

 

Don’t agree with the last statement at all. It only tells me she’s conscious of how people on social media would react to seeing them and she doesn’t want to have to deal with that.
