In all honesty though, I've never helped fund a project like this. I feel like pledgers got no real incentives. No exclusive content, intermittent updates (many of which were delayed and super spread out), and now, no dibs on just an early digital or last single ahead of others. Just really disappointed overall in the process.

based on funding a few projects, this is usually how it goes. They're pretty disappointing for the most part, at least you get to help make the music happen though.

That's so unfortunate to hear. I feel justified at not jumping at other opportunities.

  4. I mean, isn't that really the whole point? I don't get this criticism:
The pledgers got exactly what they clicked "buy" on. The incentive is: you get to help a band you like make something you then get. This gimme fucking more take is absurd.

  5. So you lied?

  6. Jusscali

    Synth-Bop Enthusiast Prestigious

Wait, I'm confused. Lied about what?

  7. Did you not pledge?

I hadnt previously but I did for this. I guess I just expected more behind the scenes content-videos, write ups, etc. along the way.

  9. Why? You bought this:
    • New Album on Black or Colored Vinyl (Signed)
    • Album Art Magnet
    • Vinyl Slipmat
    • New Album on CD
    • Limited Edition Acceptance Tote Bag
    • Exclusive T-Shirt
You helped the band pay to put an album together and are getting what you bought, and now the album is coming. I can't even fathom complaining about this.

I just went into it thinking it was a more intimate/personal exchange between fans and a band outside of the actual goods that were purchased. Clearly I was mistaken, but the disappointment is still a real feeling even if it was an expectations gap that fueled it.

Yeah, that's what I mean. That's the main reason to support these things and it's why I continue to even though I know the extra stuff they say they're going to do usually doesn't pan out very well.

But they do claim or say it normally? I didn't think my expectations were necessarily made up...or am I just completely off-base?

Every thing like this I've done usually start off with a video saying they'll do regular updates and post things like studio videos or behind the scenes clips etc. Usually they post one or two videos and an update every now and then but they're usually very infrequent and eventually just stop happening and then the album comes out. At this point I'm happy when I get anything, ha. I just pledge to help support the art and treat it like a normal pre-order. Any extra is just a cool bonus.

I think people generally have a misunderstanding of what to expect from crowdfunding. Since it's the band asking for you to contribute directly to them, rather than through a more traditional channel, it feels more personal as if they're going to give you an inside scoop, and you're paying for not just the final product, but for the process. It stinks, and you're not the only one that feels the way you do. Ultimately, you have to look at it as if it's that kid on the corner who's selling lemonade. You're paying for the lemonade, but you're really paying for the kids to continue what they do since you supported them directly.

I have a feeling from the what we've heard so far I probably won't love this as much as Phantoms, but I kind of expected that. I still like what I have heard and will support these guys no matter what.

I mean I'm worried too but I loveeeeee haunted and fire and rain seems like a gem. It'll be different but it will definitely have some great tracks. I'm worried about it being all one tempo.

This is probably my first most anticipated of the year album to be released (2nd is Los Campesinos!). I think every song has been a step up from their previous work. Really excited, hopefully you all enjoy it too!

There are definitely better songs than Diagram on here imo... Haunted is still one of the standouts for me, but there are plenty of others.

Maybe Fire and Rain, that one didn't disappoint. I also really like the title track and Come Closer... honestly it's a very consistent album, definitely no bad tracks. I do think some of the worries about it being all a similar tempo may be justified for some listeners, but I think if you get into the mood of the album it works really well.

I was planning on having my review up by now but I'm probably gonna finish writing it today... got sidetracked by band interviews and a couple other things. Without spoiling my entire thoughts, it's definitely positive.

  25. So .... great? That album is good but has some weird production on it.
