On paper yes, but I feel like this stupid ass team was rolling out Josh Palmer WR1 on every prime time game they kept getting lol

I mean, Mike Williams had the best season of his career in 2021. He wasn’t doing that with Philip Rivers and he didn’t do it with Herbert in 2020 and he didn’t do it after 2021 either

He's always had a good offense, which is why I find the hype a little annoying because I feel like he's always come up short (more often than not anyway) in big moments

Keenan Allen rules, but you can’t build the offense out of a WR running primarily short/intermediate routes from the flanker/slot positions and Austin Ekeler

Team relied on a WR who has been unreliable since his rookie year to be their primary deep threat and were rewarded for it for just one season

Both things are true imo. Herbert had a better supporting cast than a lot of young QBs get, but also he had poor coaching and that supporting cast was aging/often injured so it never felt like a cohesive consistent offense.

I agree and that's why I say it's not an excuse to have less than. I'm not being a Herbert hater, I'm just not saying "he's never had a true good offense around him" because he has

Cam Newton won MVP with someone named Corey Brown starting at WR, if you're a true GREAT you don't care that Josh Palmer is WR1

Lot of talk about QBs coming up short in big moments when there are, like, three or four QBs you wouldn’t say that about, but you would about the rest of the QBs in the league

Cam Newton was so out of this world filthy that year. Let it never be forgotten lol.

Can Newton can annoying but I think people forget how good of a QB he actually was. Dude was carrying that offense

I mean, Cam was the offense. You can do a lot with a mobile QB and a mediocre/poor supporting cast around them

I will always believe QBs themselves should elevate the talent around them

People always joke that Mahomes throws to nobody (outside of Kelce), yet he still wins SB after SB, the dude elevates those around them

Last offseason I always heard regarding Stroud "how's he gonna do without all the great college WRs he throws to?".. well, he elevated Collins, Dell and even guys like Noah Brown

Its always just a hard excuse for me to accept.. but I do agree with get as many playmakers as possible to make the job easier.

Yeah and I DO think Herbert does that too. I don't think Herbert would ever call that an excuse. I think the coaching IS an excuse, I don't think the weapons are

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Stafford will always be the perfect example of someone not having the proper coaching around him and then thriving the second he gets to a place that did

I just really really think we can never know, things will happen or they won't and it sucks but in a draft era NFL it is what it is, people are gonna be put in situations that suck and commit to them or not depending on circumstance

For reference, people would say this about Mahomes, Burrow, and now maybe Stroud? Maybe Stafford?

Josh Allen has never gotten his team over the hump. Lamar Jackson routinely chokes in big moments. Jalen Hurts has rarely needed to play from behind, but his worst play ever came in the Super Bowl and he choked away the Seahawks game last year, Dak Prescott gets frequently scrutinized for coming up short, Trevor Lawrence does too

I think the whole “He just doesn’t show up in big moments” argument is a bit silly when that could be said about most of the other good QBs in the league too. Not everyone can be Patrick Mahomes, who is arguably considered the best QB of all time!

The current plan is to keep it all. But I'll let the thread know if things change.
