idk in Maryland an HOA can only make you pay $10,000 to compensate a loss due to fire damage *if the cause of the fire came directly from your condo unit*. They can't just tell everybody to pay $10,000, they have to prove that someone caused the fire and then only that person can be charged and then the maximum they can charge is $10,000 flat

Jared's HOA telling EVERYBODY to pay $10,500 for that is some definite bullshit and I wouldn't just be going along with it.

The HOA might actually NOT have the authority to enforce that though. Like, good luck forcing those homeowners to pay that $10.5k in court

@Donnie Ruth ask them to show you the documented statute that says they have legal authority to demand that much money for fire damage you didn't cause and they have no proof you had any involvement in

and then take whatever they respond with to a legal office for a consult. A couple hundred dropped on a lawyer to learn what your options are here and how much legal power the HOA even has or if this is even legal, might save you a lot more money and hassle

Every time I think it'd be nice to own a house, I remember that dealing with other people who own nearby houses and HOAs would drive me insane

My HOA/property management company cleared a bush in an easement near my house that was growing out of control and it took only one time reaching out, so that was cool
