If they wanted to compete this year to be a middling 5-6 win team it would have been because their defense kept them in close games. Now down Judon & Barmore makes it tough to see that.

I would have taken the under anyways before this trade, but wins don’t really matter to me this season as long as Maye is developing and the offense looks like a real scheme and the rookie WR’s show something promising. But please for the life of god do everything to build the OL for 2025.

Yes, what I meant is if the Patriots didn’t trade him and let him walk. He’s our only big ticket free agent so the only way we’d get a 3rd round comp in 2026 is if we don’t spend a dime. Instead we guarantee it, move it up a year, and keep open the option of spending.

 

I think he's saying the 3rd they got from Atlanta is what they would've likely gotten if they didn't trade him and let him walk for a comp pick instead given that he wasn't gonna play for them

Yeah but if the Pats waited and lost him in FA, they could potentially not get a comp pick if they signed too many players/spent x amount of money next year. So they guaranteed comp by trading him.

Like the Jags won’t get a comp pick for Ridley next draft because they signed to many guys this offseason.
