I learned Take this To Your Grave and From Under the Cork Tree start to finish as a 13 year old. Can probably still nail most of those songs and remember most of the words.

I be changing some of the meloides though cause ain’t no goddamn way I can match Pat Stump’s range. Even as an untrained pop-punk vocalist with asthma, it was like he can stay at the top of his range forever. And that’s at least Tenor II, not Baritone like me

guitar-wise though, that’s probably the first thing I learned that built up some rhythm guitar chops & it was very crucial to me learning how to do punk-style syncopation and hard stop/start rhythms while singing and keeping every chord switch clean exactly on time. By the time I recorded my first album at 17, I mean I was just playing power chords (and some leads but nothing crazy) but the studio engineer said that way more skilled guitarists than me aren’t nailing full songs in 1-2 takes with very limited editing haha.

 

There’s even a song on that album that totally unintentionally rips off hooks from “Tell that Mick”, “Dead on Arrival” and a couple other FOB songs lol
