I also think that moving up from a different front office position to GM, where you're going from working with money+metrics to working with money+metrics, makes a lot more sense than going from playcaller to a more pure people management situation and having to all of a sudden learn to do the Dan Campbell thing and then all of a sudden you're also choosing staff above you AND below you

But I mean what do I know, I'm a guy in a work chair, I have 0 experience in any NFL job

It’s also worth mentioning that, I believe multiple times now, he’s passed on opportunities to stay in Detroit. I feel like I remember him getting some buzz during the 2022 season, but I don’t think he actually interviewed anywhere. Obviously, there was his last-minute change of heart with the Washington job last year. Then yesterday, you have Mike Florio reporting that he might stay in Detroit again after this season.

He’s been an awesome OC and I think he deserves a HC job at some point when he wants one, but handing the keys of an organization over to someone who is very very picky, seemingly has a list of demands, and still might not even leave Detroit anyway is something that would give me pause.

But if he wants to just stay in Detroit as an OC, more power to him. Follow your bliss my guy

This is what separates the jobs, and some coaches never figure it out, get canned before they figure it out or learn to figure it out and stay HC for 10+ years

i think dave was boasting about his experience last night if i recall, idk though bc i was tired.

 

His hesitance to leave has me curious about it too, that's something I didn't bring up at all but it sticks out a lot (and could be smart from him but doesn't make me excited to hire him elsewhere when I feel like he doesn't have both feet in the door at any time)
