Yeah I totally get it. You don’t wanna get stuck in the coaching carousel and I get that concern haha, it’s a gamble either way they choose lol

I just never agreed with hand picking Mayo years ago to be Bill’s successor. He hardly has held even a coordinator position, he had zero experience, and I just didn’t understand not even interviewing anyone at all or to just consider someone outside the organization. It was a confusing hire from the start. It’s not just him, I hated keeping Wolf as GM too. It was dumb to be a top 3 bottom team and to keep everyone BUT Bill.

And after year 1, they went from 3rd worst to first worst team. Mayo’s defense (his speciality) regressed to league worst, the offense with better QB play is just as bad, and every week he or players make dumb comments and have to spend the week walking them back. It’s a disorganized mess, and I literally don’t know what Mayo even does.

I don’t want to be stuck as a bottom of the league team and in a coaching carousel, but I also don’t believe in Mayo, Wolf, AVP, Covington, enough to run it back another year. I feel confident we’d be in the same spot this next time year. Ill take the gamble on clearing house and PRAYING Kraft doesn’t cheap out again and seriously tries to bring in the right people, but ya never know lol

By all means, it’s on Kraft more than anybody. Promoting from within on a bottom 3 team ain’t a recipe for success lol

Ben Johnson staying in Detroit would be equal parts funny and tiring

  4. I dunno what incentive he has really going to a dumpster fire franchise. He can continue to be one of the highest paid assistants and remain relatively anonymous knowing he has a shield in Campbell for any failures while continuing to get all the praise for the offense's success.

The thing that worries me about Mayo is:

    A) The media stuff. Dude just can not figure out how to convey a clear message.

    B) it’s not just that the roster is bad. It is. But even the decent players we had are regressing. Stevenson and Dugger look like shells of themselves and Onwenu is JAG right now.

And then you have to consider opportunity cost. It’s not just “does Mayo DESERVE to be fired.” It’s “is there a coach available that can help stabilize and build this thing up quicker, so we get the most out of Drake Maye.”

I don’t think you fire him just to do it, but I assume through back channels they have an idea of how Vrabel and Johnson and some of the other top tier candidates feel about the job and if the inkling is you can get one of them, I think you have to strongly consider it.

Just saw a guy buy $1,000 worth of fan duel gift cards with a credit card. Seems like that should be illegal.

Would probably be the best situation for Ben Johnson

domed stadium, draft capital, Darnold or McCarthy (built in expectations check with McCarthy if things dont go well)

but you already have a good HC, so whatever

The problem this presents is the job now is VERY undesirable. You mentor a guy for years to take over, know that your roster is in bad shape, give him a terrible first draft, and then can him after one year where you knew you were going to be bad?

If Mayo is out, everyone would be out and it becomes a desirable job.

Oh okay no GM then yeah Johnson is on the table. It'll be Jags, Pats, or Lions then

I would hope Drake Maye on a rookie contract, #1 overall pick, a ton of cap, and the hope of bringing in your own staff/GM is enough to be a top choice this time around.

    Ben Johnson, please listen.

(Still feel like he would go for the Jags job over like the Bears but who knows)
