It took forever for goalies to adopt neck guards even with malarchuk. Shouldn't take a tragedy like this to make change.

 

Not sure why neck guards are ditched after youth hockey. That’s a horrible accident.

I don't know why I like this sport. There's so much 200 hockey men shit that literally kills their players on the ice and we're just like "welp what can ya do?". Like just two nights ago there was a huge fight in the WHL between arber xhkajs brother and Eric boultons son and it was just fodder for hockey sports radio. This is the WHL, players are as young as 16 and grown fucking men are like "awesome, let's keep this up".

Ban fighting, mandate protective equipment...I'd go as far as doing full cages.

Most goalie neck protection won't do anything for a skate, they're simply puck protection.

 

I just bought a BNQ certified neck guard/shirt that is cut-resistant. I would be shocked if the goalie stuff wasn't the same.

 

I mean at the pro level. I'd hazard a guess the number of NHLers wearing a cut-resistant full collar is similar to the number wearing approved, non-cat's eye cages.

Probably the most common neck protectors in the league are uncertified Vaughns and Kovas, which have no cut resistant materials. Though Kova doesn't pay the league's equipment advertising fees, so you probably haven't seen the logo.

There are cut resistant neck guards for goalies out there, they're just very much the exception if it's not required by the league.
