About time. Dude has had the longest leash. Has he made a single big name trade that benefited CBJ?

Yeah, I am not really sure where to start here haha. Sorry for a long rant. I think context is important when looking back on Jarmo's run. I know it's easy to dunk on him lately.

I think if you were to plot his tenure on a graph, it would be a horseshoe. He took over a team that was in the bottom, coming off relatively current wounds from trading Nash and being embarrassed by Jeff Carter. There was brief hope with Todd Richards coaching, but it wasn't until he brought Torts in and made key trades that things took off. And then ever since Torts left, it has been a decline back to the bottom, where it all started. I don't think you can blame him for Panarin, Bob, or PLD. At least I don't. Perhaps in hindsight you can quibble on the PLD return.

I think compared to most front offices, his drafting has been really good, all things considered. I think his trade history is mostly good, but things like the Gaborik trade still leave me wondering. I think that is probably similar to most teams. I don't think there has ever been a huge question on his scouting ability. It's the contract negotiations that always killed us. I will not miss him talking about using the hammer. I think not re-signing Gavrikov as things have played out is perplexing.

In the end, I am thankful to Jarmo for leading the team out of the cellar and giving the city some fun playoff moments, even if they were brief. I think he also played a big role in vocally championing the city of Columbus. For years, it was seen as a less than city for players to be. Now it's somewhere a lot of players like to live. It wasn't just Jarmo, but he played a part in really showing players the city beyond a hotel and a couple restaurants.

I do think things had gotten stale and an outside voice and vision is needed. I hope whoever they bring in retains most of our scouting team because I think they do a good job. I would like to think this is a pretty desirable job, so hopefully they get someone good. To be this bad in back to back seasons and still be selling out games is a nice feat. This fanbase deserves consistently good hockey.

He won the first and second of the Blackhawks’ three failed Saad trades

Panarin, Seth Jones, and Foligno are probably the big ones. And then probably some of the picks in other trades that turned into players for the team. The Ducehne trade was good at the deadline as well.

you question this as if every player ages the exact same… Markstrom was 2nd in vezina voting at 32 and is doing a very good job at 34. Fleury won his first Vezina at 36. Tim Thomas won his first Vezina at 34 and second at 36.

i understand why you would question it for sure… but based on his career stats, i feel kinda correct on this one. goalies are weird.

Now go and look at how many are out of the league by Markstrom's age. A few examples doesn't make him in his prime is all I'm saying.

Markstrom was also hot dogshit last year, but I think this speaks more to the larger point of “goaltending is voodoo”

and look, I would absolutely take Markstrom

but Calgary would need to take back Vanecek and I am not about giving a 1st, Holtz, etc.

Now Saros? Thats a different story. Whatever it takes minus Hischier, Hughes x2, or Nemec

It kills me we will not trade Ullmark. Reasonable cap hit, you get him for two playoff runs, Boston desperately needs picks, prospects and cap space, and Sway is the #1 now. I know I’ve already said this before but it’s infuriating.

Starting to think Vlasic might be more like his washed up cousin than dark horse defenseman of the future I and others have thought this season

If the devils end up with Gibson to save some assets lmao. Now that's a guy you worry about.

Only reason I think markstrom is worth it is if you ask guys like Kevin Woodley and Steve valiquette, they think he should be in the running for vezina over helle. I'm also a big fan of high danger save percentage

Also any team that goes for kahkonen will win out in the long run.
