When the team is 10-3 and has looked like dogshit coming out of the bye, but the head coach’s messaging to the media when pressed about it is “Last I checked, we’re a 10-win team” and is overall defensive about it, then proceeds to demote their DC for a known problematic and bad DC, yeah I’d say the vibes are low

 

meh, I agree with half of this. We shouldn’t be implying he’d make Baltimore or Miami better, give Lamar and Tua credit that they have proven they’re better than Trevor so far.

But yes, it is definitely a huge factor that the Jags offense does require Trevor to be perfect for us to even score 21 points, and it’s hard to properly judge him when the offense as a whole takes a shit like this.

His receivers don’t win one on ones and don’t win at the catch point, so he can’t even throw the sort of “educated-guess”, “good risk to take based on the defensive look”, well defended highlight throws that Hurts and Allen etc are able to make WEEKLY to their better wideouts.

What also comes with an AJ Brown or a Stefon Diggs, is they are smart about adjusting their routes to the coverage and seeing the same big picture their QB sees against certain looks. Ridley & Kirk are at least two tiers below that level of receiver, frequently misreading where Trevor’s trying to throw them open - so he also can’t make the same “on the same page, anticipated the same thing” contextual chemistry throws that other good QBs do every game either.

So what’s left? Trevor literally can only throw to guys who have space to catch the ball uncontested and whose route got open naturally without any ad libbing. Hence, he has to be perfect and the play has to work perfectly to be successful, there’s no room for grey area. “Good route running technique” minus the ad libs is the main skill Ridley / Kirk have, but that by itself only goes so far vs NFL defenses, at some point you have to outsmart and outmuscle your man when he defends you well and his receivers can’t do that shit. Pretty fucking hard to be an elite QB without the kind of receivers elite QBs can use their elite, beyond the X’s and O’s skills with.

When the game gets frustrating because of multiple times the WRs misread his intent or dropped a perfect 3rd down and 17 pass, THEN Trevor melts down and starts fumbling and trying to force shit. Cause at the same time our line is getting demolished, we literally don’t have one lineman at all that I’d say is having a “good season”, they’re all either mediocre-with-promise (Little, Anton, Cleveland) or just plain bad. So now Trevor feels the pressure of having to force throws when the WRs aren’t winning, AND having to scramble around and run for first downs when we’re down several points and he has no time to improvise throws.

Long story short, every mistake he makes is under a magnifying glass because he simply doesn’t have the options in this offense that Josh Allen has in Buffalo or whatever. He can’t take risks. He can’t extend plays. He can’t throw to a different spot than usual to try to circumvent that specific coverage and expect his receiver to see the same thing. He can’t do any of the stuff elite QBs do to prove they’re elite in pressure situations because his weapons and line are not on that level. I mean, we can criticize Mahomes situation all day but Travis Kelce and Creed Humphrey are still better than anything Trevor has on offense period.
