i think you can do borderline stuff if its done the right way. "they wouldnt be able to make the office now" always seems like a lazy take because, i really think they did that show the right way. most of the outrageous and borderline 'offensive' behavior was committed by michael, and the way the other characters or people in the scene reacted to him told you the viewer this is not something that is acceptable. perfect example is in the S2 Dundies episode when he does the asian imitation and they cut right to a girl giving him a glare. they never try to pass it off as acceptable behavior.
