It was like 60% of the reason I left DC and moved to Baltimore. I didn’t know of any places like that in DC. They had hourly practice spots… for like $40 an hour during peak lol. (they had happy hour times, but still.) and you can’t actually store your gear at those spots was the bigger issue, I needed somewhere stable to put the piano and organ I inherited, you can’t disassemble and pack that away like you can with drums or guitars.

So it was either pay $400 a month to have access to all this shit on demand 24/7… or pay like $150-$200 a month to put some stuff in a storage space where I’d never set it up and play it… and then lug my guitar gear to an hourly rehearsal space where it costs the other $200 to have ONE full 4-5 hour practice session.

Obviously, I’m far more productive without budget & time constraints. I’ve had a couple nights where I practiced late, slept in my practice space on the couch and then practiced more in the morning. That’s extra true whenever I finally start recording (still need a little extra gear)

 

That plus Baltimore rent being WAY cheaper made my decision for me. Staying in DC made 0% sense at all. My apt, with its own rooftop deck, steps from the water, and walking distance to one of Baltimore’s best spots, + my awesome practice space that I don’t share with any other bands, is the same $1600/mo I would’ve paid to live in a rickety apartment in shitty Fort Totten, DC with no practice space.

and I still go to DC often. It’s only 45 mins away, in traffic it’s like 60-70. So I’m basically having my cake and eating it too
