Is your practice space someone's basement, a storage unit, etc? Do you rent it?

It’s actually a warehouse-looking building that has like 40 different practice spaces in it. I rent it, $400 a month. It’s in Essex, an immediate suburb of Baltimore about 15 mins from my apartment.

Super high security, it has a heavy steel front door that only opens from the inside, there’s cameras everywhere, and the parking lot / back door is behind a barbed wire gate with both requiring card key access.

It’s “climate controlled” but y’all have seen me take issue with the guy unlocking my door and turning off my damn AC and dehumidifier lol.

it’s big enough to fit:
-piano
-organ
-keyboard
-recording computer & monitor speakers
-drum set
-bass amp
-both guitar amps
-dehumidifier, AC, mini fridge
-my couch
-lamps and side tables

With everything already plugged in and ready to go, I only really wrap up cables and put my guitars in cases when I leave. It rules.

Ahhh damn. They ended up dropping the 3rd off of my schedule since it would be my 7th day in a row anyways!

 

Sounds sweet. Do you ever run into other musicians and just talk or invite each other to your space to collaborate?

 

I’m very late getting caught up but how about the impressive performance by Zach Wilson this weekend?

I haven’t yet - chances are if they spend hundreds per month on a space (and some spaces are bigger and more costly than mine) they are already in serious bands. A lot of the other bands I hear when I’m walking through the hallways are really fucking good, even if they don’t play a style I like I usually still respect how tight they sound.

However, if I ever end up seeing the drummer of the band in the space next to mine, I’m talking to him cause he’s good as fuck. They’re heavier than my band but his style would be good for my stuff too
