The jags have also been around less than 30 years. The majority of their fans remember what it was like for them to not exist. At that time they probably rooted for other teams. Cant possibly get on board with jags fans being labelled the most diehard fans lol

Let me clarify, there are more rabid fanbases, but those fanbases haven’t had to sit through 20 straight years of awful. Like, Steelers fans are obviously a stronger fanbase than Jacksonville but it’s a different litmus test when your team was only good for their first 4 years and mostly terrible for the next 20. The fans that stick through THAT are die hards. They’ve already seen rock bottom (multiple times really) and nothing can shake them

Actually used to be real common for all the bottom level teams...the thresh-hold was like a sell out 72hrs before the game...there'd be at least 1 game a week blacked out in the local market. I think Washington and St. Louis (after the LA move was made public) are the teams who had the lowest attendance percentage in the last decade since they dropped those rules though

 

Yes… with a smaller market than every team except the Packers. And Jax downtown especially is a pretty small urban area so it’s really spread out. This was one of our two rock bottoms (the other with Urban Meyer) cause we drafted Gabbert to try to solve our problems and then got WORSE lol

 

Buffalo and NOLA are also smaller

also, and i am doing this against my own better judgement at the risk of keeping this conversation going, simply being a fan of a bad team for an extended period of time is not my measuring pole for a fanbase being 'diehard', we might as well just do sadness rankings at that point. there are real diehard fanbases of very very very actively good franchises and the teams success doesnt take away from the fanbases passion.
