    *** Dave's Panic List ***

    1) Bengals - Obvious
    2) Chargers - The AFC was looking like a tough road and it softened up like crazy and you're still just dicking around. 50+ points, 0 turnovers and 0-2 is just not acceptable.

    *** Gap ***

    3) Vikings - Meh they'll probably still sneak out a wildcard. NFC is weak
    4) Bears - Everything everyone said. This year was Fields' test year and he's failing.
    5) Broncos - This is what you get
    6) Patriots - Anyone who expected them to make the playoffs this year was silly. Same as the bears, this is Mac's test year and so far he's...idk a C+? If they could stop going down by double digits early they'd actually be fine lol.

I thought Mac looked okay last night but he absolutely could not throw the ball down the field. He was hitting literally every underneath/intermediate throw though, which I guess is just who he is.

It’s already starting to be too late for that though

you’d hope a QB you traded up for becomes a better passer than Fields is rn in year 2

the longer he goes without a rudimentary understanding of how “getting rid of the ball” is supposed to work (via anticipation, pocket presence, understanding the point of the play so he can speed up his processing etc)…. The steeper that learning curve becomes because every week he has less and less time to learn it before it’s time to pay him $40M per season.

I still cannot for the life of me believe that the Bears traded a high 2nd round pick for Chase Claypool just to keep him away from the Packers

like that move alone should get the GM fired

I'm more inclined to blame the staff than just think he's incapable of learning. it might be too late for him yes of course but if it got to that point the staff has to go too.

If Fields had a bad game like Trevor had a bad game this would be a different discussion. Trev was disappointing yesterday, but you can at least still see he’s trying to fool the defense and get ahead of them, by knowing his plays inside and out and making decisions early sometimes. I very rarely see a Fields play that illustrates good preparation and planning.

Definitely, it also falls on the staff I’m not exonerating them either.

And here’s an underrated facet of the “is it Fields or is it his staff” discussion:

sure, calling a designed shovel pass screen with everyone else running downfield and no other options is dumb when you’re on your own 3 yard line. That INT looked like Fields was being dumb but he actually had no good options after the single read of the play was broken. He couldn’t even scramble and throw it away.

and sure, we just criticized that fake RPO playcall where Kmet wasn’t blocking OR running a route and where the line pass blocked when they should’ve run blocked etc.

It makes sense to blame the coaches for poor situational play designs and play choices.

But it also says something that the coaches are calling one-read plays in these key situations. Why do you think they’re doing that? It’s because they STILL can’t trust Fields to go through his progressions, and actually know what he’s looking at before the pocket collapses. They’re having to oversimplify their offense and galaxy brain ridiculous ways to scheme one route open so Fields doesn’t have to make reads. And when it doesn’t work, everybody looks bad.

the Bears have not won a game since the 2022 baseball season ended.

    Read that again.

Eh the Bourne throw on the left was right where it needed to be. The ones on the right were bad but those are low percentage throws anyway against the dolphins soooo I’m more annoyed about the decision than the throw lol

Chase Claypool last won a football game on October 16, 2022. Can he make it a full year?

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Fields is very clearly not it. I know his coaching stuff hasn’t been good, but there are basic things he’s still failing to recognize and do that you would expect a QB to by now.

    The rivalry is back on

I’m neither agreeing nor disagreeing because hopefully another 15 games will make it more and more clear, but I’m not worried about the Bears because:

best case scenario 1: Fields turns it around and they probably have 2 top 10ish picks to fill in the roster gaps around him

best case scenario 2: Fields continues to not be it, and they turn one of those top picks into Caleb Williams or Drake Maye or whichever of that next group of guys emerges as QB3 and 4 and get a restarted rookie QB clock with a better year 1 supporting cast than last time
