Want to reiterate, btw, that Peyton Manning is a shitty human being

I may wax poetic from time to time about how watching him made me fall in love with the strategy of football

It absolutely does not mean I forgot his college sexual harassment scandal that never affected his career

The memory of being in awe of just how much a QB can control a game, coexists with me thinking he should’ve never had fame and I’m glad he choked in the playoffs most of his career. Just want it to be clear I’m talking strictly from a historical perspective about how I came to love the nuances and details of football so much before I knew anything about what Peyton did

 

I was watching career highlights of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith last night and wowee what a time to be alive

Wish I was older during the Jags heyday tbh. Looking back we had a SLEW of blue chip players:

Jimmy Smith
Fred Taylor
Keenan McCardell
Kyle Brady
Tony Boselli
Leon Searcy
Tony Brackens
Kevin Hardy
Aaron Beasley
Donovin Darius
Carnell Lake

fuckin all those guys were top 10 at their position except McCardell, who was still probably top 20 or at least top 25 and would’ve been a WR1 on some teams

Brunell was also a fringe top 10 QB, it’s just tough for me to give him a lot of credit because the bar has been raised so much for starting QBs nowadays. He threw way too many INTs, choked in big games, and he was way too reliant on Jimmy Smith being A+++ elite at beating press downfield. That was always his “answer” when things got tough - chuck it deep and hope for the best. Worked way more than it should’ve because of how good Jimmy was.

I have a signed Marino authentic jersey, and I watched him sign in front of me when I was a kid. Probably my most prized possession.

Yes. And he was still at least a top 12 QB from 1996-1999, with some people thinking he was easily top 10. It’s crazy how much more we expect out of the QB position now

You’ll notice I did NOT include Brunell in that list of blue chip players from the 1999 team haha. A lot of Jags fans would. Imo we don’t lose to the Titans 3x and we make it to the superbowl if we had a better QB

I came so close to having this from Jimmy Smith. He signed something for the kid NEXT to me instead.

I also got to go to the 1999 pro bowl and i was so excited to see Jimmy Smith… but Manning, Harrison, AND Edgerrin James were all pro bowl starters as well so of course Manning just ran the Colts offense and threw to Jimmy only 2 times for 17 yards. 9 year old me was so upset lol

 

Bet this guy wishes his favorite team got 1% better each day

I have a signed photo of Robert Hays (Ted Striker in the movie Airplane!) and I keep it on my nightstand

 

oh man idk if I can find it but a few years ago my friends got me a Cameo from Kurt Angle where he tells me to stop being a little bitch

 

The 2000 Ravens won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer because they had the best defense of all time, we know this. They averaged 10 points allowed per game through the whole season and had something like 5 or 6 shutouts. It wasn’t just their front 7, they had Chris McAlister and Rod Woodson in the secondary.

Jimmy Smith had 10 catches for 194 yards and 2 TD in a HALF against them that year.

 

I need to see this. He actually lives near me and I've seen him out to eat several times in the last few years. He seems like a nice dude.
