Well, the one release is so he's not on the roster for Week 1 (and thus guaranteed his salary). I'd bet the rest were "X player got injured and we could drop our 4th RB for the roster spot"

 

Yeah some of these guys like Isaiah McKenzie are vested veterans so cutting them yesterday and re-adding them today is a way for teams not to guarantee their 2023 salary.

I don’t really get what was happening today because they dropped McKenzie along with 2 other players to process waiver claims today and then re-added him a couple hours later after putting Jelani Woods on IR, when I think they could have just done that to begin with? Maybe it was just timing on a medical opinion or something?

if you put a player on IR before the initial 53, they are out for the year

if the player makes the initial 53 and then goes on IR, they can return in 4 weeks

Miami did the same thing with Jalen Ramsey. He "made" the initial 53 and then was put on IR today and they signed Parry Nickerson

seems weird if corresponding moves for waiver claims also have to be done before players are eligible to be put on short term IR
