It’s under investigation. It sucks and I’m in no way defending it but as far as I’m aware (please someone correct me if I’m wrong) there’s only been that tweet that went viral from some random person. He should not be playing until more is known though.

 

what do you mean? the tweet was collecting multiple posts over a year directly from instagram

 

There’s the underage girl (from California?) that started the news. With the videos and pictures.

and a slew of tweets from last November about him sleeping with 17 year olds

 

I had not seen anything else covered aside from the initial tweet

 

I don’t think the media picked up the tweet from last November. But a random tweet over a year ago accusing him seems at least somewhat plausible now.

 

I agree 100%, and it’s awful.

I’m just not surprised that the nba didn’t immediately suspend him especially since there hasn’t been an actual criminal charge (again, as far as I’m aware)

 

My question is how do we navigate this as fans of the league? It’s clear to me that the vast majority of people (correctly) don’t give a shit that it’s “legal” and that’s a line you don’t cross regardless of the statutory laws.

(And for the record, Oklahoma says that if an adult is MARRIED to a minor, it’s fair game so the law CLEARLY is just fucked up and needs to be changed. Hopefully this sheds light on that.)

I’m not gonna preach to anyone here cause we all (HOPEFULLY) agree on that. But even in the grand scheme of things, like, NFL fans seemed more willing to brush Deshaun’s 27 allegations under the rug than this. So at what point is the NBA responsible for the contempt of like 80% of its viewers, as well as the bad publicity all over Twitter now, regardless if there’s a charge or not (there won’t be)? Are they really just gonna “no comment” this whole issue and hope it goes away?

 

I didn’t even know about this until I saw it floating around Twitter, it’s NOT a good look for the league itself

 

Definitely won’t have any effect on OK laws unfortunately

I haven’t seen any major person or outlet (other than Shams tweeting that the league was investigating) talk about it at all.

Miles Bridges beat his girlfriend and got 30 games suspended. 20 of them were retroactive (he didn’t play last season at all iirc)

Josh Primo exposed himself to women and got cut from the Spurs. 4 game suspension. And then signed with another team.

Ja Morant got 25 games for the gun incident (and I’m assuming everything else that happened leading up to that)

Devonte Graham got 2 games for a DUI.

 

Giddey is going to likely have to be convicted of a crime or at minimum go to court over it for anything substantial to happen to him tbh. I believe if he’s guilty of anything in that nature he’d be permanently out of the league. If not facing jail time.

He's absolutely going to lose sponsorships though regardless.

 

idk what you mean really about navigating it as a fan of the league. it sucks! fuck giddey and he shouldn't be playing basketball and should be charged as a sex offender. y'all post like crazy about football every weekend, which has a terrible domestic abuse problem. none of our posts are gonna charge anything, unfortunately, so i'll probably just keep watching the sport?

 

Those two fouls on Joel were so incredibly weak.

 

It’s just a new low. Probably won’t even get suspended. Probably will continue to date high school women, just more quietly and privately. At the very least the Deshaun situation blew up in the Browns face and him sucking after being suspended so long was it’s own punishment for enabling him in the first place

 

Just sucks that “well it’s legal, there’s no charges” is being used as a cop out even though it’s as close to a consensus as it gets that it’s fucked and indefensible

 

Who gives a fuck that the Browns stepped in shit? That’s their whole thing. How exactly has Deshaun himself been punished by cashing in that $250m guaranteed contract that was structured specifically to keep him from losing money during his suspension?

 

Not to mention the new in-season Hard Knocks doing its best to make Tyreek Hill our friendly neighborhood wide receiver lmao. Miss me with any partial credit to the NFL. This is how sports work, unfortunately. Every league enables the awful behavior of their players, but I have a much easier time watching the ones that aren’t also evaporating their players’ brains in real time
