One thing to keep an eye on as they get deeper into the season is the innings starting to pile up for Severino and Cortes. Severino has only thrown 28 innings total the last 3 years. Cortes has never thrown more than 120 innings in a year between the majors/minors. You have to wonder if they will start to wear down.

 

Yeah that's another concern for sure. Nestor has definitely not been sharp recently. I know they're matching the 98 team's pace but there are definitely some weaknesses to watch. That team really had none lol.

Yeah the 98 team was insanely talented. That pitching staff had a bunch of big game horses and the line up was stacked top to bottom. There’s no comparison to me I would take that 1998 team any day of the week.

I just realized no other team has 50 wins yet.

 

Two thoughts on this years yanks vs the 98 team: they might have more weak spots but their strength (lineup) is so strong that it almost may not matter. Barring some serious regression the 22 lineup beats the 98 team’s pretty easily. And obviously the 98 team didn’t have anyone as out-of-this-world as Judge. (Yea I am a mild Jeter naysayer but also please don’t tell me with a straight face that you’d rather pitch to 22 Judge over him or O’Neill or Bernie Williams or someone, even tho I believe Williams had a bonkers year in 98)

Second thought is that they quite simply don’t need to be as good as the 98 yankees to make it out of the AL. The late 90s Cleveland teams were a much tougher draw than even Houston is this year, certainly than Toronto or anyone else

 

I refuse to get my hopes up after bad luck and injuries the past few years, gonna just enjoy the ride for now
