Remember when Wisconsin was picked to finish near last in the Big Ten? I remember.

This has been such a fun season to watch. Hopefully they can keep it going.

Exact same thing with Iowa State. I was just hoping we’d win more than two games like last year.

Central is playing for the state championship again today. Crazy considering they dont have any “stars” like in recent years.

  8. I think it's time for both parties to move on. Like you MRose, I was there when Willard took over (I was a Sophomore), and I think it was obvious that the program needed a rebrand more than anything else and Willard gave it that a thousand times over. It's so funny looking back at the Bobby Gonzalez days and just thinking about how many terrible things happened on a monthly basis, off the court and on the court. Willard was a great transition guy and he had the right temperament and coaching style to change the type of players we were getting in recruiting. I remember during the Boosters Club dinner one year, Jeremy Hazell gave a speech and said he might be dead or homeless if Willard hadn't taken over the program... thats how much it meant to those kids.

Now having said that, it's time for something different. Willard set the program up for the next chapter, but his flaws have been evident for awhile. Top tier defensive teams year in and year out, but not a single semblance of offensive structure. Iso ball and weaves until someone eventually chucks a three. Willard "grew up" in the NBA and his offenses reflect that. They are also just constantly ill-prepared for tournament games.

Last night, I think I counted three offensive sets where it looked like they were in sync. The offensive woes were hidden behind the fact that he had generational shooters on his team to bail the team out (Hazell, Powell, even a guy like Gibbs who could turn the clutch on at any time). This year, he was dealt a tough hand with COVID and injuries, plus the fact that 90% of his players are transfers. I like to think with Aiken playing, the offense looks a LITTLE different last night, but overall I just think it's more of the same.

I hope Willard takes the Maryland job because he deserves it and we deserve something different. I would also really love if Shaheen took over, especially when you watch how he runs an offense. I think overall though, Seton Hall is back to being a top-tier Big East program who is expected to make the tournament every year. They aren't ever going to be Duke or Kentucky or Villanova. But they are where they are now and it's time for something different.

Side note: That quote from Willard about Shaheen at the press conference is pretty fucked up. He put Seton Hall, Maryland, and St. Peter's in an awkward spot there.

23 wins and Sweet 16 in a down year, I'll take it.

I have bruises from watching that game. Holy shit.

  19. Maybe it’s just me but do you guys feel like the refs have been extra inconsistent this year? Not just in the tournament, but in general. I feel like I’ve never seen it this bad.

My anxiety was through the roof. How do you drop a 25 point lead? That damn flagrant.

100%. And until they can be publicly held accountable by a post-game interview with the media and face actual consequences for mistakes, it’ll only get worse. (Applies to reffing in all sports.)

  22. There was a three game stretch where one specific crew blew calls in a Seton Hall game, then a Villanova game, then a Marquette game. It’s like… one crew can alter the landscape of an entire conference down the stretch. That can’t happen.

There’s a similar crew in CFB this last season, but I’m blanking on the games at the moment. We as fans should never need to know the names of a ref. But I know Doug Shows and Pat Adams for all the crap they pull in the SEC. I’m sure you know a few too.

  24. James Breeding, Ron Groover, and Nathan Farrell is the crew I was talking about. Breeding’s name is allllll over Twitter. He hasn’t had a good game this season. Breeding is the one who gave Hurley a technical in the UConn/Nova game, and when Hurley yelled at the student section to get up and be loud, he ejected him.

I would simply like Tennessee to force them to foul us while driving in.
