honestly asking (and I can probably dig into this on Thursday at work) but are there still people with the Giants org that were there when he was DC??? Like… that’s 30+ years ago now. I have no idea if ownership is the same or what but I kind of just assumed that while he had a history there that there were no actual ties left because of the time that had passed

 

Going back to the consistency that we saw with Brady I still cannot get over the fact that he went an entire fucking decade (I think) without winning a Super Bowl and “only” appeared in two during that time, and still ended up going 10 times and winning 7 of them. Like… a fucking DECADE of his career passed without a Super Bowl win and he still fucking won a Super Bowl essentially 33% of his seasons and went to one 48% of his seasons lmao

for as special as Mahomes and the Chiefs are, this also shows just how goddamn rare those 90’s Bills teams were. Chiefs had four straight home AFC title games and only two SB appearances. Bills went to FOUR straight Super Bowls and I think only played 2 (at most 3) of those afc title games at home. Just insane.

And maybe Mahomes wins 2 or 3 or 12 rings but going 1/4 for the home afc title games just shows how fucking difficult it is to win a super bowl let alone get to one.

 

It still makes me so mad, the Jags losing AFCCGs in 1999 and 2017. Awful losses both times. I cannot fathom how Jeff fuckin Fisher had our number but nobody else did in ‘99; ‘17 was just a miserable collapse by our coaches when leading by 3 scores

it also happened in 1996 but I was too young to have full memories of it. All I know is we beat the Kelly / Bruce Smith Bills and Elway / Terrell Davis Broncos, two powerhouses at the time, only to lose to a worse Patriots team

 

The Mara’s are one of the longest tenured owners in the league as it’s been passed down through the family.

 

But being honest yeah, even if you get there it’s still really hard.

Of the Jags playoff seasons:
Jags did not have a Super Bowl winning level of talent in 1996, 1998, or 2005. We got somewhat lucky to win as much as we did those years.

2007, we had a real good squad (maybe not quite Super Bowl but def at least a top 6 team)… but realistically we lacked the pass rush and weapons the Giants had so there was no way we were keeping up with record breaking Brady / Moss… Garrard did the best he could, keeping up with Brady until the fourth quarter throwing to scrubs, but we were never gonna control that game enough to do what got us to the playoffs (running the ball 40x a game with Fred and MJD)

2017 was a maybe, depending on how hot our defense was and how mistake free Bortles played. It was more likely that Bortles threw away the game, than that our defense took it over with multiple turnovers, so I lean “no”. We had an extremely dominant D for sure but Bortles was worse than Garrard and throwing to worse scrubs than Garrard was lmfao, and Fournette wasn’t close to Taylor/MJD.

1999 was a yes. That is full stop the best team we’ve had, 7 Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball, was the only time we ever had a COMPLETE offense with a solid QB and dominant receivers / RB / OL. But we still would’ve had to beat one of the all time great offenses (Rams) who passed for record yardage against an even tougher defense than ours (TEN), so that drops to a “maybe”

even if we win those AFCCGs, our chances of getting a ring would’ve still been slim

 

Im still chuckling a little at the absurdity of that BB text...and what a trainwreck that Giants HC search is. They basically decided on a guy up front, set up 5 other interviews as pretext, managed to get 3 minority candidates to do like 4 separate interviews, created an otherwise perfect little mix of leaks of "its guy X" and even got the gift of Stephen Ross trying to leak that Flores+Watson=NY was destiny.

And yet it might all crumble because Bill Belichick sent a text.

 

Isn’t that generally what most GM interviews are? “This is who I have the pull to hire and roughly who I’d like to hire, this is the basic scheme I want this team to run, this is how we will tweak your roster, this is my 3-5 year plan?”

 

honestly, this might still keep me up at night if i was a big time fan like you. losing to literally ONE team THREE goddamn times in a single season is fucking brutal. and to have it be the Titans and Jeff Fisher of all teams and people is just absurd.

like, Chicago in 2010 losing to GB three times with the last being the NFC title game at home when you were a BJ Raji pick-six from going to the Super Bowl is TOUGH but they were 11-5 so they lost to other teams.

but to be 14-2 and end the season 15-3 with all fucking three losses to just ONE team might break my brain.

 

I was 9 years old. Only time I’ve ever cried from sports and I’ll probably never fully get over it hahaha

wasn’t even close either I’m pretty sure we lost 33-14. It was 13-14 at half and then a bunch of crazy fluke shit / great defensive plays happened in the Titans’ favor and then we lost bad

now you understand why I hate the Titans forever lol. And they still spank us constantly with the same kind of team, including a power RB who’s even scarier than Eddie George. Since ‘99 they have always beaten us in really fucking demoralizing ways

 

Since they moved to Tennessee we are 16-32 against them, at 3 separate times we have lost 5 straight to them. Right now we’ve lost 7 of our last 9.
