Diehard since the day I learned the name Cal Ripken, Jr. Also such a big baseball fan that I insist on having "other" favorite teams since the Orioles let me down so much, which is why I've jumped on the Rays bandwagon lately. lol

Totally can make all of the jokes and comments that have become warranted about the contract extension he got, coupled with just an absolutely astounding downward spiral as a hitter over the last 4+ years.

But - he was also responsible for some of the most joyous moments I experienced as an O's fan from 2011-2016. Thanks for the memories, Crush.

Hal would want the Nationals to pay 80% of his salary so that's not happening

This somehow might be my favorite Chris Davis moment - coming in to pitch in the 16th inning against the Sox in 2012, and pitching 2 scoreless (albeit at times terrifying) innings to get the win.

Easy to forget that Chris Davis was one of the players that pitchers least wanted to pitch to for a long time.

  18. As a lifelong O's fan the Davis retirement has me more bummed than I would have anticipated. He obviously didn't perform up to expectations on his contract, but he earned that contract (despite how ill-advised it may have been on the O's part) by being one of the best power hitters in recent memory for a few years. By all accounts he's a great guy, great teammate, and does a lot for the community. I've always felt bad about the amount of hate and criticism he received because of a contract that the team gave him willingly. As @Gianni28 said, he's been responsible for some of the best O's memories of my lifetime and I hoped, though unlikely, that he could come back next year in the final year of his deal and go out on a better note with the fanbase.

He's also the last remaining member of those 2012-2016 O's teams which were the most exciting years I've experienced since I started following baseball and the Orioles in the late '90s. There was something comforting about seeing him on the field, even when he was terrible haha. Would have liked to see his career end on a brighter note than this.

Peak Chris Davis had ridiculous power, the easiest swing that just seemed to absolutely launch balls
