Torii Hunter mentored Mike Trout. Albert picked a fight with Torii in the clubhouse so they signed Josh HamBone instead of re-signing Hunter that offseason. Albert's signing was the key ingredient of a lost decade for the Angels franchise.

Anyways, at least we have Ohtani and Trout now.

They have Stanton at DH and Voit back in days but watch the Yankees sign Pujols lol, they love pretending the magical pinstripes can revitalize anybody

  8. if you're being serious this is one of the most galaxy brain takes i've ever seen on this website

Pujols contract was an awful idea in retrospect but no one thought he'd be THIS bad for most of the deal when he signed in 2011. think most talking heads saw it as a positive move for the franchise even if an overpay, especially on the back end. sure I'm glad Cardinals didn't re-sign him but Marlins and others were willing to give him that much money and almost as many years at the time I believe

setting aside that what you said just doesn't make any sense, torii hunter was pretty awful after he left the Angels. when the Angels signed Pujols, Trout had had about 100 mediocre big league PAs, Ohtani was 16 and...what was your point again?

everyone knows what the Angels' problem is and it isn't Pujols lol it's, in order: a) Moreno; b) Moreno; c) Moreno; d) inability to develop or sign any pitchers that aren't dogshit. those are the key ingredients.

but whatever, cutting him makes sense. it made sense this offseason too and that's when they should have done it. I've adopted the Angels as my AL team this year and I'm rooting for them super duper hard but it's some wild revisionist history to pretend that Pujols is the main problem, much less the only problem, with the last decade of baseball in Anaheim

The Rays would like to apologize to anyone who’s got Mike Trout on their fantasy team.

My only comment here is that Torii Hunter was still a really good player after leaving LA. He his over .300 with an .800 OPS his first year in Detroit and followed it up with similar but slightly dipped numbers as a 38 year old.

The Angels probably still were fine moving away from him considering he was so old and you just never know with guys 35+ how quickly they’ll fall off a cliff... but they did seem to hurt themselves more by bringing in Hamilton, lol.
