The problem with destination bowls is that going to the bowl games always, always costs teams lots of money.

that shit should be paid for by the sooner of the bowl. I get that Jim’s Quick Car Wash and Smoothie Shack Combo type company won’t be able to afford that, but 95% of these companies can if they can afford to “buy” a bowl game with your name.

I’ll never forget how sad it was learning years ago that most basketball Cinderella teams during March madness actually LOSE money the farther they get in the tournament versus making money. Yeah they get exposure but that doesn’t pay bills right away (maybe a few years later if they catch a recruit’s eye and get them to the school) and is a shit position to be in when they (the school) should be enjoying every moment.

*****At least the kids do and at the end of the day it’s kind of a “who fucking cares” since schools are businesses but my concern is when losing money maybe ends a program or two not “oh no the six figure head of the school doesn’t get more money”

Yeah, I remember WMU going to play rice in a bowl game in texas cost WMU like $300k when it was all said and done. And that was like a decade ago, can’t imagine what that would be now.

Well right but thats the system they want. If they're going to do it, might as well make it more interesting for the fan base. If you're gonna spend that money to play Rice in whatever texas, might as well have that game be in key west or whatever

Thats the system that the big boys want, that's definitely not the system a team like Western Michigan wants. And they def don't want to spend to fly to an island or Ireland. The fact that teams lose money on bowl games is ludicrous.

Honestly, give me like a 12 or 16 team playoff and then do another one for teams who didn't win their conference and have some sort of champions league/europa league type set and scrap bowl games. Do all those shit bowl games even draw eyes on TV anymore?

Id rather travel to get a chance to play in a historic stadium than Montgomery Alabama or Shreveport Louisiana or el paso

But yes, obviously warm weather is definitely a reasoning for all those locations

Its always mind boggling how rich people can be that they decide to dedicate a fortune (pennies to them) to their university. Out of all the things

    Anyway ..

Thats quite the conviction to give tucker that money this early. He definitely proved me wrong in 2021. I thought this Spartans team was a 7 team win at best, so good job

it's wild that schools don't get fiscally fucked by such terrible contracts. Mel Tucker is having a great year but is he nick saban? Nah. $95 mil is crazy.

Weren’t some nfl teams already considering him as well? Definitely seems like they were worried he might leave

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

LSU was pushing hard, and the NFL was calling too. If they didn’t pay him he was 100% gone. I like him a lot and think he’s doing a great job, but yeah that price is wild, but it’s not my money lol. Really hope he continues to do well, seems like a genuinely good dude.
