Cant believe the Pistons ended the Celtics streak before it hit 10 lol, Rob Williams and Smart being out hurts us noticeably so hopefully everything is good after the break but maaann they had multiple chances to improve their seeding with that one (congrats to the Piston fan but couldn’t it have not been us )

Idk what they’ll do with Anfernee. I’m sure he gets paid at this point but I’m curious if they’ll try to pair him with Dame or if they’ll try to sign and trade him for something else

 

Why would they trade him when he’s better than dame

 

Man, the East is so crazy. As a Cavs fan, I'm petrified. One 2 or 3-game losing streak can put you from the 3rd seed to the 8th seed.

Out of all the 8 (even 10) teams in the running for the playoffs, the Cavs are by far the youngest and most inexperienced. I'm afraid the pressure will get to them during the final months.

 

I don’t even know what a trade for Dame would look like now, what team has the assets that could be in a position to compete with him. But he’s gotta get out of Portland.

 

I’m sure Cronin or whoever has the responsibility this off-season will first try to convince Dame and his agent on a Portland future, where Simons is signed and then they try to get pieces around them. Not sure what that would look like or if Dame would be receptive.

Assuming it doesn’t work, I think they would have to pivot to trading him and I think there would be several suitors. There aren’t many other stars potentially available. Would just be a question of how stubborn they would be in trade talks. They could really drag it out with having two years left before the player option. But assuming he’s healthy, to have two full seasons before his option would be attractive to a contending team to make multiple runs before any decisions need to be made.

 

I’ve said they should trade everything for years so they’ll do the opposite and move more stuff for nothing and be a meaningless play in team for multiple decades.

 

It’s sort of hard to project them right now bc Cronin is an interim decision maker. As important as CJ was the case for trading him in a pitch to ownership is much easier than Dame. Unless they remove that interim tag or hire someone full time, I don’t see any real team building or tearing down happening.

 

I didn’t realize how far ahead Phoenix is in the standings, weird how none of those guys are in the MVP discourse with how good they’ve been together

 

There’s a real chance he gets it. Unless they want to fire billups, he basically has the entire org right now in his hands lol

 

If that’s the case they should just remove that interim tag. Not sure what the benefit to waiting is. If you are thinking of interviewing outside candidates than Cronin isn’t the guy at this point. If he is the guy just get it over with and let the front office move forward.

 

I think they worry about the look of getting all Chauncey’s guys in place and not interviewing other good candidates.

 

Yeah I was thinking this the other day too. Especially considering Paul has never won one, I’d think he’d be getting way more buzz.

Also feel like Ja Morant is getting way less MVP consideration than I’d expect.

I see we've updated the criticism of new players to "can't shoot". I thought the go to complaint about all new players from old players is that they could never score down low?

 

I kind of get what he's saying, but I think its less that Giannis can't shoot and more that there'd be not as much space for him to just drive down low. He wouldn't be able to get right to the rim without shooters around him, he would definitely have to develop a solid mid range shot.

Great players adjust to type of game being played, I agree he'd have to play differently but he also would absolutely be able to adjust. Every great player would have to.
