Patrick is not gonna be some star but he's also never gonna get the chance to improve under av. Better off trying elsewhere

 

I'll never understand how Patrick was a consensus 1-3 pick. Elias Pettersson was right there even without hindsight.

 

From what I remember, patrick was a monster but he played a shitty league. They should’ve just done the smart thing and taken either of the super good defenseman. No one knew if pettersson could even really play center so I don’t blame them for not making a huge reach.

Whatever happened to liljegren? Thought he was supposed to be this huge steal for the maples and was a top pairing defenseman?

 

I wouldn't call taking him second instead of fifth a huge reach. He was the best forward in that draft aside from Hischier and you have a better chance of adding to your team's ceiling with the elite forward regardless of position. Patrick already had injury problems and his game always screamed "very good player" instead of elite.

 

Patrick never looked elite to my eyes even before the concussion issues, why I wasn't super bummed that Avs fell to fourth in that draft, and not at all upset that Philly passed on Makar

Also, its just as silly to write off Colorado after 4 games of a tied series as it was to write off Vegas after a Game 1 ass pounding

Avs have 2 more games on ice that isn't glorified slush, that's plenty of time for zone entries and passes that will actually work properly

 

Both teams were playing on the same ice. I agree that it’s silly to write them off, but let’s not pretend like the ice quality had anything to do with the Avs being thoroughly outplayed the last two games.

Coming along slowly in the AHL. I've personally never been a huge fan of his, but by many accounts, he's been the Marlies' best player over the course of the last 1-2 seasons. He'll almost certainly never be a top pairing defenseman though, barring a miracle.

 

Sometimes I think most forget that nhl prospects take longer than most other sports, other than baseball. It’s also a different situation when you play for a team that’s good and probably doesn’t need you.
