The Verlander extension is a big deal because there was a narrative for a while in Detroit media that he was overpaid and wouldn’t fetch a good return. Teams backed off of him because of his age vs contract. Obviously, Houston has pushed him to be even better than he was his later years in Detroit, but the guy is unbelievable and the Astros ended up getting a steal.

 

I wouldn't call $33M a year a steal for JV. Sounds about right, to me.

It is crazy/frustrating how well he's turned out. I enjoy it, still, but the lack of ability on Detroit's part is ridiculous.

 

He had to recover from a pretty nasty injury. The way he’s bounced back from it is extremely impressive.

 

MLB free agency is gonna be non existent now, I'm sure sports media is v.happy about it as they write stories about the great moves these gms are making to underpay their own players

I meant... the Tigers paid for part of his current deal, and the Astros gave up a few prospects for a guy with Cy Young numbers who earned himself another huge contract in the year and two months he has been with them. This deal isn’t a steal, but the trade was.

I just looked at the trade for some reason I was thinking Astros gave up more, but they really gave up nothing.

 

Same as they always do, probably gave up even less for Cole lol

 

Feliz and Musgrove are good, Moran was a little redundant for sure. Not sure it's quite "less" level but they sure did well with that trade

 

"Good" is a bit of a stretch....


Did you see them on a prospect ranking like 3yrs ago or something?
