He would’ve been Cleveland’s 5th best qualified hitter last year lol. Like yeah, it wasn’t close to Santana’s best year by a long shot and was absolutely disappointing relative to other Santana seasons, but it was alright. 105 OPS+ and 1.7 WAR aren’t worth scoffing at. Roster construction depends on those kinds of players. And there’s a lot of optimism to be had for him going into this year. Walk rate went up, strike out rate was in line with career, as was his ISO. Exit velocity went up. The thing that’s out of line and skewed his season, as @T.J. said, was BABIP.

 

Santana was still above average in run production with a 109 wRC+. He was fine. He had a 16.2% walk rate. Couple that with his low BABIP and his OBP is going to go down.

That sucks. Man his first full year he was like amazing for 5 months and then just fell off a cliff. I always wish the trade goes well both ways.

 

I'm bored tonight so for what it's worth Judge's k% in spring last year was 31.5% and down to 24.3% right now this spring. If his two strike, no stride approach he started using is responsible for that, could be a monster year.

 

It blows my mind Teheran is the opening day starter for the Braves for the sixth year in a row. Like, this is the best we've got.

There once was a time when John Smoltz was considered our 3rd best option to start opening day.
